<p>David Beckham, Rio Ferdinand and Cristiano Ronaldo are just some of the heavyweight footballers to have made this corner of the Golden Triangle home. Wander down its high street and you’ll see a lot of shiny fast cars and even shinier white teeth and, true to its reputation, there’s a lot of Champagne-quaffing and hair extension flicking. But by god, it’s pretty. From its grand and handsome Victorian homes speckled around the centre, to its sweeps of farmland and legendary ‘Edge’.</p>

<p>If you revel in the brash and bling, book a table at the <a href="https://sancarlo.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">San Carlo</a> offshoot next to the rail station, for authentic and generous mounds of pasta and exceptional seafood. For a similar vibe there’s <a href="https://www.victors.co.uk/main-menu-alderley-edge/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Victors</a>, where diners sit beneath trails of wisteria and graze on plates of sushi or slabs of Tomahawk ribeye. Across the road, the kitchen at <a href="https://gustorestaurants.com/restaurants/alderley-edge/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gusto</a> delivers crowd-pleasing Italian favourites and they also let the kids make their own pizzas, whilst over at the <a href="https://thebotanist.uk.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Botanist</a>, you can order juicy hanging kebabs with a side of live music.</p>



<p>Craving hot coffee? Head away from the high street and towards the tucked-away <a href="https://www.nookandcranny.shop/">Nook &amp; Cranny</a>, a cosy dog-friendly café dishing up flaky pastries, exquisite cakes and top-notch coffee that’s a sharp departure from the town’s glamorous reputation. Nearby is <a href="https://www.modernfarmhouse.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Modern Farmhouse</a> – an Instagrammable brunch space where the team have a tangible passion for seasonal ingredients and the jerk-spiced sweet potato patties with bacon is one of our all-time favourite dishes. If it’s pub grub you’re after, duck inside the higgledy piggledy walls of the <a href="https://www.robinsonsbrewery.com/pubs/drum-monkey-alderley-edge/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Drum &amp; Monkey</a> – nab a seat outside underneath the strings of fairy lights in the tipi marquee. We have to include <a href="https://www.gwienholt.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">G Wienholt Bakery</a> that’s been around since 1950.&nbsp;</p>

<p><a href="https://www.coggles.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Coggles</a> sits in a reimagined bank on a corner of London Road, and it’s here personal shoppers can guide you through its vast and immaculate wardrobes of designer glad rags, with names such Tom Dixon, Ganni and Margiela. Looking for a sharp suit? At the back of the store there’s a suit tailoring service led by Italian menswear brand Canali. Mooch a little further down London Road and you’ll find <a href="https://www.tuula.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tuula</a>, a one-stop-independent-shop whose rails are filled with carefully sourced and handpicked pieces of womenswear from across Europe. </p>



<p>There’s also an offshoot of Cheshire-based boutique The <a href="https://www.theeditboutique.com/">Edit</a> where shoppers can get their hands on everyday wear and contemporary fashion at very manageable prices. But if you’re shopping on a bit of a shoestring, rummage through the town’s collection of charity shops. You’re guaranteed to find designer garb for next to nothing, donated by the town’s well-heeled residents. Oh and if it’s top-notch food you’re after, duck down Heyes Lane and into <a href="https://granthams.net/shop" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Granthams</a> for cured meats, slabs of cheese, bottles of plonk from across Europe and deli-style snacks.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>



<p>No excuse not to be primped and preened, Alderley Edge is brimming with medi spas and pioneering spaces focusing on aesthetics, led largely by <a href="https://doctornyla.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dr Nyla</a> who’s considered one of the best cosmetic doctors in the country. At her namesake Medispa, patients can undergo anything from jawline fillers to fat reduction and non-surgical skin tightening treatments. There’s <a href="https://www.instagram.com/renewmedicalspa" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Renew Medical Spa</a> in the centre of town, where people go to rid themselves of cellulite, boost their lips and smooth out wrinkles.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Though for something less extreme, <a href="https://www.studio34reformer.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Studio 34</a> is a moodily lit contemporary space teaching reformer pilates, whilst up a narrow staircase a few roads away is <a href="https://yogaontheedge.co.uk/">Yoga on the Edge</a>, a gorgeous, light-filled studio that occasionally runs retreats overseas too. <a href="https://www.thebirthcompany.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Birth Company</a>, meanwhile, set back from London Road, is a Portland Hospital-affiliated centre for pregnancy scans, fertility support and gynaecological services.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>Arrive in summer and the town’s <a href="https://alderleymusicfestival.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Party in the Park</a> on the vast Alderley Park brings tribute acts to the stage (think Take That, Diana Ross and Elton) with street food stalls, kid’s amusement areas, and naturally, Champagne bars. There’s family-focused <a href="https://www.alderleypark.co.uk/springfest" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spring Fest</a> every April where bands, tractor rides, woodland treasure hunts, crafts and donkey rides land on Alderley Park. And as the festive season draws in, the Christmas light switch-on lures locals to hover around dozens of artisan stalls and warm up with mugs of mulled wine.</p>

<p>When you’re in need of a good walk, drive up and away from town and towards ‘The Edge’, a dark and damp escarpment, trimmed with vast woodland that’s the eerie setting for Alan Garner’s novel, The Weirdstone of Brisingamen. Fans of the book arrive here to seek out the mythically-named&nbsp;Stormy Point, Iron Gates and Golden Stone, as well as the caves where it’s said King Arthur and his knights lie sleeping beneath our ‘shire. Stand on the top of The Edge, and you’ll be able to gaze towards the vast Cheshire Plain and the huddle of skyscrapers making up Manchester. Whilst here, make time to visit the crumbly-round-the-edges Wizard Tearoom. But arrive early before the served-warm cinnamon buns have all gone. You can even go on subterranean tours of the caves if you don’t mind poking around in the dark.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Pop over to Wilmslow if you’re hankering for a night at the cinema, where you’ll find retro-style picture house, <a href="https://rexcinemawilmslow.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Rex</a>. Splurge on one of the comfy sofas towards the back and settle in with a bottle of their decent house wine. Wilmslow also has the tiny <a href="https://greenroomwilmslow.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Green Room Theatre</a> for amateur productions. And you can always hop on a train to Manchester. In just 20 mins you’ll have the <a href="http://palacetheatremanchester.net" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Palace Theatre</a>, <a href="https://thelowry.com/">The Lowry</a>, <a href="https://factoryinternational.org/aviva-studios/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Aviva Studios</a>, <a href="https://www.royalexchange.co.uk/">Royal Exchange</a>, the <a href="http://manchesteroperahouse.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Opera House</a> and more to pick from.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.aesg.co.uk/">Alderley Edge School for Girls</a> stands eminently as you drive into the town – an independent day school for girls aged 3 – 18 yrs and is ranked within the top 3% of schools nationally. <a href="https://www.theryleys.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Ryleys School</a> is another independent for children aged 1 – 11 yrs and has been graded ‘Excellent’ by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, where you might spot footballers scooping up their kids at the end of the day. <a href="http://aecps.org">Alderley Edge Community Primary School</a>, meanwhile, has been rated Outstanding, whilst further out of town, <a href="https://netheralderley.ft.school/">Nether Alderley Primary School</a> is a small rural school with a Good rating. <p>It’s no secret The Edge is brimming with myths and legends, where Alan Garner set his fantasy books, The Weirdstone of Brisingamen and The Moon of Gomrath. But what is less known is that Stormy Point – where you can gaze across to Manchester, Stockport and the Pennines – was also the meeting point for a witch’s coven in the Sixties. Arrive here after dark on Halloween and you might even meet some modern witches dancing in the moonlight.</p>

<p>Hop on the train and you can be at Manchester Piccadilly in 20 mins, whilst London Euston is just over 2 hrs away with a change at Crewe.&nbsp;</p>
