Where locals stomp through the vast green wilds of Tatton Park before warming up in a crumbly pub or escaping into the bucolic loveliness that surrounds Knutsford on all edges. It’s pretty, it’s fun and it’s kinda cool.</p>

<p>There’s a lot to love about Knutsford’s foodie scene, led in part by <a href="https://www.lindenstores.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Linden Stores</a>, a wildly popular neighbourhood joint with a focus on seasonal British small plates and hard-to-find wines. If it’s on the menu, go for the deeply rich braised ox cheeks. Looking for a bit more spice? <a href="https://www.sigiriya.live" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sigiriya</a> leans on Sri Lankan cuisine to curate its menu and plates are expectedly fiery with glittering interiors and cocktails drawing on Far Eastern spices. </p>



<p><a href="https://wineandwallop.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wine and Wallop</a> is a decidedly cosy place to hunker down in on a cold winter’s evening for a glass or three of red and elevated pub food. But on long summer’s evenings, there’s a tucked-away roof terrace strung with fairy lights. For coffee, all day brekkie and brunch plates, nab a table at <a href="https://www.nekicafe.co.uk/home" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Neki Café</a>. And when the sun is shining, hell, even on a grim grey day, join the throngs queueing round the corner for some of the best gelato I have ever tasted at <a href="https://www.therealfruitcreamery.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Real Fruit Creamery</a>.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Knutsford pulls off tiny independent stores with aplomb. Pop into <a href="https://www.detaljer.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Detaljer</a>, a lifestyle store from Swedish native Caterine Hooper who sources quirky and Scandi-cool homeware. It has its own café too serving Cheshire-roasted Kickback Coffee and artisan bakes (you won’t find a better cinnamon bun in Stockholm). <a href="https://www.instagram.com/rihomeknutsford/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">R.I. Home</a> is a newbie on the scene, stocking homeware inspired by Mallorca. </p>



<p>Chocolate purists need to make a beeline for <a href="https://www.hotcocoa.co.uk/">Hot Cocoa</a> – the HQ of pastry chef Hattie Cufflin on King Street who will pull together a box of her creations and whip you up a hot chocolate whilst you’re waiting.&nbsp;There’s <a href="https://www.theeditboutique.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Edit</a> for affordable, easy-to-wear and stylish womenswear whilst <a href="https://www.pulseofperfumery.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pulse of Perfurmery</a> is a traditional perfumers stocking unusual and little-known brands. Follow the scents of jasmine and frangipani outside the <a href="https://thebathhouseshop.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bath House</a> – a gorgeous store of natural skincare and home fragrances.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Looking for fresh fish and locally-sourced fruit? Wander over to the Market Hall that’s been the HQ of trading since 1964 with a handful of stalls open on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On the first Sunday of every month, the <a href="https://www.themakersmarket.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Makers Market</a> spills onto the streets with a line-up of craft and foodie stalls. Inch a little further out of town and the superb <a href="http://thelambingshed.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lambing Shed</a> is a one-stop-shop for all those farm shop goodies. Plus there’s a <a href="https://www.neptune.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Neptune</a> store if you’re thinking about conjuring up your dream kitchen.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>



<p>There are several NHS GP surgeries across the town, run by the Knutsford Medical partnership. At <a href="https://www.carrotbananapeach.co.uk/">Carrot Banana Peach</a>, yogis hang from the ceiling in aerial yoga or sweat it out in hot yoga, or <a href="https://wildheartyoga.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wild Heart Yoga</a> run outdoor sessions at Reindeer Cottage, often with the chance to sign up to overseas retreats. If it’s a spa you’re after, drive over to <a href="https://themereresort.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Mere Golf Resort &amp; Spa</a> which also hosts fitness classes for members.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Head east towards Pickmere and you’ll wind up at <a href="https://www.thefarmclub.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Farm Club</a> which hosts sunset yoga sessions, wild swimming, euphoric dancing and sound baths all throughout the year… including Wim Hof-style ice baths, even in the dark depths of winter.</p>

<p>If you live in Knutsford, you’ll quickly realise May Day is a big deal that’s been a tradition of the town since 1864, when crowds gather on the streets on the first Saturday in May to watch the processions of children and the crowning of the May Queen. <p>The green and serene estate of <a href="https://www.tattonpark.org.uk">Tatton Park</a> with its Tudor Hall, neo-classical mansion and miles of verdant grasslands is a hugely popular place for locals to run, walk and cycle. It also hosts a rotating line-up of festivals throughout the year, from <a href="https://www.happyplaceofficial.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place</a> and the <a href="https://www.royalcheshireshow.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Royal Cheshire Show</a> to the <a href="https://www.rhs.org.uk/shows-events/rhs-flower-show-tatton-par" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">RHS Flower Show</a> and <a href="https://www.classicibiza.co.uk/tatton-park">Classic Ibiza</a>, led by the 32-piece Urban Soul Orchestra, DJs and singers. </p>



<p>Over on Tabley Lane is the illustrious <a href="https://www.visitcheshire.com/things-to-do/tabley-house-p27631" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tabley House Stately Home</a>, filled with dozens of paintings by artists including Turner and Lawrence. Or for something entirely different, there’s <a href="https://www.jodrellbank.net" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jodrell Bank,</a> home to the UK’s largest radio telescope and a fascinating centre focused on all things space. Come summer, <a href="https://www.discoverthebluedot.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bluedot Festival</a> lands in the shadow of the Lovell Telescope where big names take to the stage. Past performers include Grace Jones, Groove Armada, Roni Size and Annie Mac.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Elizabeth Gaskell’s <em>Cranford</em> is based on the author’s life in Knutsford and you can take guided tours of the town and the nooks that inspired her novel through the <a href="https://www.knutsfordheritage.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Knutsford Heritage Centre</a>. If you’re a fan of niche museums, stagger over the cobblestones to the <a href="https://www.thecourtyardknutsford.co.uk">Courtyard Ca</a><a href="https://www.thecourtyardknutsford.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">f</a><a href="https://www.thecourtyardknutsford.co.uk">é</a> (excellent Eggs Royale) and inside you’ll find the penny farthing museum where you can stare at the Victorian bikes with a side of cake. Closer to town, <a href="https://www.knutsforddaynursery.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Knutsford Day Nursery</a> takes children from 3 mths – 5 yrs in a former library, whilst <a href="https://www.kidscountry.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kids’ Country</a> in Over Peover has a large garden and forest school sessions. <p>A little out of town, both <a href="https://www.lower-peover-school.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lower Peover C of E Primary&nbsp;School</a> and <a href="https://www.peoversuperior.cheshire.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Peover Superior Endowed Primary School</a> are rated Outstanding by Ofsted. Other primary schools include <a href="https://www.bexton.cheshire.sch.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bexton</a>, <a href="https://www.egerton.cheshire.sch.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Egerton</a> and <a href="https://www.highlegh.cheshire.sch.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">High Legh</a>, which have all received Good reports, whilst <a href="https://knutsfordacademy.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Knutsford Academy</a> is one for the teens. Further towards Altrincham is the excellent <a href="https://www.st-ambrosecollege.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Saint Ambrose College</a> – a state-funded grammar school for boys. There’s also specialist school <a href="https://www.adelaideheathacademy.net" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Adelaide Health Academy</a> for children aged 11 – 16 yrs with specific social, emotional and mental health needs. Or drive south for 15 mins and you’ll arrive at <a href="https://www.tnschool.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Terra Nova School</a>, an independent day and boarding school.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Scurry down King Street towards Tatton Park and on your right you’ll find Marble Arch – a gorgeous row of white-washed buildings, covered in a jungle of plants. It’s quite possible the most instagrammed spot in town.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>If you’re heading to Manchester, the train is a slow and takes over an hour, alternatively it&#8217;s a 45 min drive. If you’re heading to the Big Smoke, take the train from Knutsford, change at Stockport and you’ll arrive at Euston in around 2 hrs 40 mins.&nbsp;</p>
