<p>So you like the good life? Great restaurants, buzzing community, lots of wide open space to hike and bike and escape the thrum. Better move to Lymm then – an under-the-radar village that’s not trying to be anything other than a genteel and arms-wide-open place to call home.</p>

<p>Leading the foodie scene in this part of our ‘shire is the hugely successful <a href="http://thechurchgreen.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Church Green</a> pub in Lymm. More posh pub than old school boozer, its menu is driven by local ingredients with classics cooked superbly well. Edge out of town and Olivier Troalen helms La Boheme, a crisp-white-tablelcloth sort of place, underpinned by French gastronomy. Go in summer when its outdoor terrace hums with the scent of lavender.</p>



<p>Back in the centre of Lymm, grab proper English brekkie-style dishes and chip butties from the original outpost of <a href="https://www.coffeehouseonline.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Coffee House</a>, that’s spawned a whole collection of offshoots across north. As you’d expect, coffee is taken seriously here. Walking around the Lymm Dam? Look out for the shiny coffee trailer from <a href="https://avanticoffeecompany.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Avanti Coffee Company</a>. And if it’s especially chilly, take them up on the offer of a splash of booze in your cuppa.</p>



<p>But it’s <a href="https://groobox.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Groobarbs Field Kitchen</a> that’s turning heads, just five minutes from the centre of Lymm, where head chef Jake Boyce puts provenance front and centre, plucking the very best from the farm’s fields and transforming it into restaurant-worthy dishes. Expect a regularly-changing set menu, served to diners on communal tables, from earthy salt-baked beetroot tart to berries with lemon cream.</p>

<p>Pop into <a href="https://birdandbay.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bird &amp; Bay</a>, an inde shop devoted to all things interiors, from vintage mirrors to Scandi-style cushions as well as jewellery and garden bits and bobs. Rummage through the homeware edit at <a href="https://laurelhouseinteriors.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Laurel House Interiors</a> with soft furnishings, candles, mirrors and all that jazz. For original art, <a href="https://clkart.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">CLK Art</a> exhibits paintings and limited edition prints from international and local artists. Stock up on pies and danishes and all things carb-heavy and delicious from <a href="https://sextonsbakery.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sextons Bakery</a>. Craving sugar? They also serve ice cream from Daresbury Dairy made down the road.</p>



<p>Drive up to the shepherd’s hut at <a href="https://www.higheroakfarm.co.uk/the-shepherds-hut" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Higher Oak Farm</a>, meanwhile, where a touchscreen vending machine pops out just-plucked farm produce, fresh eggs, chocolate brownies and honey made from their very own bees. Open around-the-clock too. Or the farm shop at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/abbeyleysfarmshop" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Abbey Leys Farm</a> is a popular pit-stop for berries grown at Kenyon Hall Farm and proper Cheshire potatoes.</p>



<p>And not a shop in the traditional sense, but the aforementioned Groobarbs Field Kitchen runs a veg box delivery service, <a href="https://groobox.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Groobox</a>, delivering its organic bounty to homes across Cheshire.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>



<p>Lakeside Surgery and Brookfield Surgery are the local NHS GP centres. Lymm is also home to the <a href="https://cheshirewellnesscentre.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cheshire Wellness Centre</a>, hosting nutritional therapy, mindfulness, life coaching, reiki and sound baths.</p>



<p>We may be in landlocked Cheshire, but if you’re a fully-fledged cold water swimmer, drive the 15 minutes to Pickmere Lake, where wild swimmers embrace the chill and wallow in its waters. </p>



<p>Better still, there’s The Farm Club (thefarmclub.co.uk) on Pickmere which hosts cold water sessions with lifeguards, as well as yoga classes, sound baths and euphoric dancing. Sign up to their Wake &amp; Shake (yoga, breathwork and cold swimming) and warm up post-dip with a hot cacao. All this, plus rosy-cheeked walks along the Dam, canal towpaths and the Trans Penine Trail.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>There’s a whole lot celebrated in the village to bring the community together, with the crowning of the May Queen being one of its biggest in May, where a procession of dancers, floats and children are ferried through the streets. There’s also the Easter duck race, the Lymm Festival covering music, dance and comedy, Lymm Beer and Gin Festival, and as the festive season approaches The Christmas Tree Festival and Dickensian Day when hundreds of santas race through the village.</p>

<p>Get outside and mooch over to the Lymm Dam, a serenely unspoilt stretch where walkers skirt the paths around the water and shelter in the woodland if the rain breaks out. A little drive out is the vast and wild expanse of <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/cheshire-greater-manchester/dunham-massey" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dunham Massey</a> whose gardens are a lovely setting for a bracing stomp, plus there are events held here all year round. Christmas is particularly magical when its gardens are strung with thousands of fairy lights, but log on early for tickets.</p>



<p>Oh and remember the imitable Tommy Shelby and his grand mansion in <em>Peaky Blinders</em>? The formidable <a href="https://www.arleyhallandgardens.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Arley Hall</a> was the brooding setting for the Brummie gangster and his family and it’s just a five-minute drive from Lymm. Where kids beaver about its play area, grown-ups inspect its immaculately tended gardens, and a whole calendar of events crops up on its lawns. There’s an upcoming Peaky Blinders exhibition, too.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Stop by the <a href="https://www.lymmhic.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lymm Heritage Centre</a> for a window into the village’s past with interactive exhibits and kid’s activity book whilst you wander around. But for a night at the cinema, pop over to Altrincham whose <a href="https://www.everymancinema.com/venues-list/x11dp-everyman-altrincham/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Everyman</a> cinema shows blockbuster and indie films or bag tickets for a panto at the <a href="https://www.altrinchamgarrick.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Garrick Playhouse</a>.</p>

<p>House prices in Lymm had an overall average price of £388,416 in 2024. Semis for for £351,577. Detached homes average £701,410, with flats fetching £193,548.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-nurseries">NURSERIES</h2>



<p>Little ones at <a href="https://www.kidsplanetdaynurseries.co.uk/find-a-nursery/lymm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kids Planet</a> Lymm nip into the village to the library and park, get stuck into forest school and it also offers a holiday clubs for kids aged 4-11. <a href="https://rainbowdaynurseryuk.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rainbow Day Nursery</a> takes children from 0 – 5 yrs and is rated Good by Ofsted, whilst at <a href="https://rosebankdaynursery.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rosebank Day Nursery</a>, children are taught bits of French and play in the large garden. The <a href="https://hollygrangemontessori.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Holly Grange Montessori Day Nursery and Preschool</a> is rated Outstanding by Oftsed.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p><a href="https://www.oughtringtoncps.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oughtrington Primary</a> is rated Outstanding, whilst <a href="https://www.ravenbankschool.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ravenbank Primary</a>, <a href="https://www.stathamprimaryandnursery.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Statham Primary</a> and <a href="https://www.cherrytreeschool.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cherry Tree Primary</a> are all rated Good, and <a href="https://www.lymmhigh.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lymm High School</a> is in the top four of comprehensive schools in the northwest according to The Times. <a href="https://cransleyschool.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cransley School</a> is an excellent co-ed mixed independent school with sought-after places and is around 20 mins drive. </p>



<p>Closer to Lymm are both <a href="https://aggs.bright-futures.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Altrincham Grammar School for Girls</a> and <a href="https://www.agsb.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Altrincham Grammar School for Boys</a> which claimed first and second place respectively for Northwest Secondary School of the Year for Academic Performance 2024 award. <a href="https://www.grange.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Grange School</a>, meanwhile, is 25 mins away and one of the highest rated independents in the northwest.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Edge just slightly out of town and you can stand in the shadow of the Lymm Water Tower – an architectural gem that&#8217;s been converted into an Airbnb. It&#8217;s even had Kevin McCloud&#8217;s seal of approval when it appeared on <em>Grand Designs</em>.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Lymm no longer has a rail station, but it’s very close to the M6. Car journeys into Manchester take around 40 mins. Heading to London? You’ll have to take the train from Warrington Bank Quay Station.</p>
