<p>So you’re looking for bone fide country living? For quirky festivals, wildflower-speckled meadows, proper cosy pubs and the sort of dreamy barn conversions and cottages that crop up on the BBC&#8217;s <em>Escape to the Country</em>? When you want that dip-in, dip-out life, the village of Mobberley conjures country living with aplomb though with plenty of amenities right on your doorstep.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-eat">EAT</h2>

<p>Anybody who’s anybody who lives within a few miles of Mobberley knows about the village’s insanely good trio of pubs – all of which just happen to be run by the same people, The Cheshire Cat Pubs and Bars. But these are no ‘chain’ pubs as such, but pretty and characterful boozers all with their own distinct menus and settings and feel. Chug down a pint or three in <a href="http://thebullsheadpub.co.uk">The Bull’s Head</a>’s immaculate beer garden on a sunny day and you’ll end up staying for hours… especially given the phone signal is so-so here. Or when the weather turns, curl up inside on the wobbly wooden tables and order its legendary steak and ale pie, washed down with a warming red. </p>



<p>Across the road is <a href="http://roebuckinnmobberley.co.uk">The Roebuck Inn</a> dripping in ivy and pulling in more chichi countryphiles who come to chomp on globe-trotting flavours on the hidden terrace or bed down in one of its four eclectic rooms. And a short drive away is <a href="http://churchinnmobberley.co.uk">The Church Inn</a>, opposite the 12<sup>th</sup>-century St Wilfrid’s Church, that regularly appears in the Good Pub Guide and fosters that proper old-school pub charm with a gastro menu that’s seasonally-focused. </p>



<p>There’s also the <a href="http://theploughandflail.co.uk">Plough and Flail</a> where pub classics are served in its light-filled orangery and kids hang from its play area whilst the grown ups natter over a rosé. Craving a full English or back-to-basics bacon butties? Drive (or walk) over to <a href="http://barnshaw-smithy.com">Barnshaw Smithy</a>, an all-brick space with vast windows that’s always a buzz in the morning. You can also go for afternoon tea too.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Keep in mind this is proper country territory so you’re not going to find any upscale boutiques or stores at the vanguard of cool. But you will find <a href="http://waughbrowfarm.uk">Waugh Brow</a> – a lovely farm shop stacked with deli treats and seasonal veg and a traditional butchers. There’s a play area for little ones to wheel around tiny bales of hay whilst you hug a coffee or dig into a full English. The owners also host Fit Farm here, outdoorsy fitness sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. </p>



<p>Elsewhere, <a href="http://mobberleyicecream.co.uk">The Mobberley Ice Cream Co.</a> has an onsite coffee shop where punters pull in to graze on brekkie-style sandwiches, cakes and of course its epic ice cream whose specialty flavours include toasted brown sourdough and amaretto fudge. There’s even a children’s afternoon tea if you feel like spoiling your crew. And in the heart of the village is <a href="https://www.instagram.com/mobberley_village_bakery/">Mobberley Village Bakery</a> for just-baked bread, cakes and sandwiches.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>



<p>Wander in any direction from Mobberley and within minutes you’ll lose yourself in its miles of rural pockets, rambling through wildflower-speckled fields or dappled woodland. All that fresh air and wide open space is wonderful for the soul… and completely free. But there’s also <a href="https://www.thefitworks.com/">The Fitworks</a>, a private gym where members train inside or outside with a bespoke fitness and nutrition plan. <a href="http://cpase.co.uk">CPASE</a>, meanwhile, is an all-frills health club with a full gym plus classes of Spin, Hiit and holistic meditation as well as paddleboard yoga. They’ve also just unveiled a Padel park too. As for massages, laser hair removal and all things beauty, book in at the <a href="https://www.thebeautybarnmobberley.co.uk/">Beauty Barn Mobberley</a>.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>There’s a tangible sense of community swirling about the streets in Mobberley. People really will know your name (and your business). And one event that always brings the village together is the Mobberley Rose Queen Festival, held every year on the first Saturday in June. All children living within the village boundaries take part, dancing down the streets towards the Old Hall Field where stalls are set up and the Rose Queen is crowned. </p>



<p>There’s also the famed Wobbly Eight – a bike ride which originally carved a path to eight pubs within Mobberley, where riders sink a drink in each boozer. Two of the pubs have now shut down and there’s no official date for the bike ride, but it’s still very much a rite of passage for Mobberley residents. Over at the Mobberley Cricket Club, you’ll find bargain G&amp;Ts, pints and a jovial sense of camaraderie with a side of cricket.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Manchester Airport is close by and though it might sound odd, a walk following one of the runways can be quite fascinating as you watch plane after plane take off. Towards Knutsford, the great sprawl of <a href="https://www.tattonpark.org.uk">Tatton Hall</a> stands in its wild estate that’s a lovely place for a bracing walk or bike ride. And the kids will relish a nosey around <a href="http://whitepeakalpacafarm.co.uk">White Peak Alpaca Farm</a> with its resident alpacas, above.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Your closest cinema is the <a href="http://curzon.com">Curzon</a> in Knutsford, around 10 mins away, or there’s <a href="http://rexcinemawilmslow.com">The Rex</a> in Wilmslow for blockbuster and indie films, just 15 mins drive. Tatton Park has a buzzing events calendar too, from foodie festivals to Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place Festival.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Properties in Mobberley had an overall average price of £500,967. The majority of sales were detached homes, selling for an average price of £811,250. Terraced homes sold for £425,428, with flats fetching £180,789.</p>

<p>Right in the heart of the village in the Victory Hall, the Mobberley Pre-School Playgroup takes children from 2+ yrs. But if you’re seeking a nursery with longer hours and for younger children, you’ll have to drive over to Wilmslow (Bright Horizons Clairmont Day Nursery, Pepperberry Day Nursery, Footsteps for example) or Knutsford (The Little House Montessori, Knutsford Day Nursery).&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools-nbsp">SCHOOLS&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Many of the children attend <a href="http://mobberley.cheshire.sch.uk">Mobberley C of E Primary School</a> that was rated Outstanding and go on to <a href="http://knutsfordacademy.org.uk">Knutsford Academy</a> for secondary. A little further is away is <a href="http://peoversuperior.cheshire.sch.uk">Peover Superior Endowed Primary School</a> and <a href="http://lower-peover-school.co.uk">Lower Peover C of E Primary</a>, or over in Wilmslow, you have the excellent primary schools of <a href="http://gorseybank.org.uk">Gorsey Bank</a>, <a href="http://ashdene.cheshire.sch.uk">Ashdene</a> and <a href="http://laceygreen.cheshire.sch.uk">Lacey Green</a>. <a href="http://agsb.co.uk">Altrincham Grammar School for Boys</a> and <a href="http://aggs.bright-futures.co.uk">Altrincham Grammar School for Girls</a> are both exceptional and 15 mins drive away.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>British mountaineer and Everest hero George Mallory was born in Mobberley and at the tucked-away Big Hill Distillery, the makers have created a Spirit of George Gin in his name. Get your hands on a bottle from The Mobberley Ice Cream Company or Dexter and Jones in Knutsford.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Hourly trains head into Manchester from Mobberley rail station and take around 40 mins. If you’re off to London Euston, change at Stockport with journeys taking around 2 hrs 30 mins.&nbsp;</p>
