Modern Farmhouse, Alderley Edge

Why you need to seek out this Scandi cool space in Alderley Edge with a menu firmly rooted in the British countryside

This casual cool restaurant is evolving into something of a cult classic in Alderley Edge. By day, it draws a whole spectrum of diners: you’ll find the freelancers tappping away on their laptops; the friends waxing euphoric over coffees and flaky pastries; and a collective of fitness types who float around the sun trap terrace after a session in the next door reformer pilates space, Studio 34. Dogs are welcome, too, and they even have a menu designed for pooches.

Inside, it has a tiny tinge of Alderley Edge glamour but with hints of Scandi cool: think plenty of wood and white and organic tones, and food is modern Brit with a splash of global influences. Brunch is a big deal with dishes such as toms on toast, smashed avocado, and smoked haddock and leek rarebit. One of Muddy’s fave dishes? It has to be the buttered sourdough with slithers of Iberico ham, salty padron peppers, chilli and a fried egg. But there are also great, hulking sarnies and pristine-looking salads which can all be pepped up with breakfast-style sides. Wash it all down with a coffee, a kombucha, hell, a mimosa if you’re feeling jazzy. Though the lions mane latte has got our vote.

And occasionally the kitchen opens in the evening for supper clubs, steered by seasonal, local ingredients and handpicked wines. Plus there are monthly run clubs on the first Sunday of every month at 9am, where runners tackle either a 5K or 10K run, before grabbing a coffee on their return to the cafe. Oh and it even has a lifestyle store inside with a curated collection of interiors knick knacks.
