The Lambing Shed Farm Shop + Kitchen

Why you have to seek out this destination farm shop in Knutsford

Adjoining its very own sprawling farm estate stretching for 400 acres, The Lambing Shed has evolved into something of an icon in the county. Pitched on the outskirts of Knutsford, where rolling hills and farmland blur into the distance, this farm-shop-cum-destination cafe is not just a place to stock up on local goodies, but it’s an experience in itself.

Reflecting our county’s rich bounty, the farm shop is a veritable smorgasbord of local ingredients, from towering cakes and just-baked bread to towering hampers filled with curated collections that speak to every kind of shopper. And then there’s, of course, home-reared Cheshire beef and lamb, nurtured right here on the farm – something they’ve been doing for more than 65 years.

But promise me you’ll take the time to nab a table in the cafe whilst you’re here. Not just a bacon buttie and grab-and-go sort of caff (though its bacon rolls are spot on). But a spruced-up space dishing up restaurant-worthy dishes presented with real panache and made from gorgeous local ingredients. There’s wine on the menu too, G&Ts whipped up using their very own gin, or coffee from Chester-based roasters, Jaunty Goat.

Heading here this summer? The team have rustled up their very own beach for the summer hols. From 22 July, a huge sandpit for kids to run wild in will appear, where grown-ups can loll about in deck chairs, ordering ice creams and hot jacket spuds from a pop-up food truck. As for the rest of the year, there are supper clubs and pumpkin picking, farm festivals and kiddie trails. See you there!
