<p>Lighting up the shadows of the city’s austere cathedral with a thousand twinkly lights, Chester&#8217;s glittering Christmas market is back in business. And as ever, there’s a real focus on championing local independents, foodie start-ups and British brands. Follow the scents of mulled wine, fuel up on giant pork sandwiches, and huddle up with a marshmallow-laden hot choc beneath fairy lights strung from tree to table. Open seven days a week until Sun 22 Dec.</p>

<p>The November Chrimbo market was sadly cancelled thanks to stormy weather. So expect a rollicking, rosy-cheeked affair when this festive market lands in Macclesfield on Sun 22 Dec. And given it&#8217;s one of the largest markets in the north west with more than 140 stalls dripping in lights, it might just be the spot to grab some last-minute pressies. That and any excuse to rummage through its vintage stalls and huddle up with your chums for nips of mulled wine.</p>

<p>Spreading the seasonal love on Sat 30 Nov- Sun 1 Dec this year is the annual Knutsford Christmas Market. Harnessing the region’s plucky local spirit, dozens of stalls will be popping up, selling artisan food, drinks, arts and crafts to take care of your gift list with a side of live music to entertain crowds giggling over steaming cups of mulled wine. Don’t miss the Santa Parade on Saturday at 5pm as St Nick joins the Mayor of Knutsford to mooch through the town’s streets, before the Christmas light switch on at 6pm sharp. </p>

This is Nikki Hill’s hideaway, the Aussie naturopath who whisks up herbs and botanicals for her evocatively named teas, tinctures and candles &#8211; all of which will be on sale, plus a whole collection of gift sets, crackers filled with self-care goodies and exclusive treats for those who attend. Floral designer, Justine Foyle, will also be there, conjuring intricate and wild wreaths, potted trees and bunches of blooms. And whilst the creative duo are remaining coy about the actual location, expect a cheery atmosphere you could bottle and wintry Scandi vibes from a market that may just become an integral part of Cheshire’s festive scene. </p>

<p>The bright crew behind Alty&#8217;s sceney outdoor market has curated a whole bunch of events to eat, drink, shop and make merry this Christmas. Scribble down Sat 7 Dec for &#8216;not-so-late-shopping&#8217; when the outdoor stalls will be trading until 5.30pm (they usually shut at 3pm). And whilst Christmas has well and truly landed at the markets, they&#8217;ll be keeping the stalls open every day between Tues 17 and Tues 24 Dec so there&#8217;s no excuse not to make time and potter down. And you know the drill when it comes to Alty Market. Arrive hungry and take your pick from gravy smothered pies from The Great North Pie Co, just-pink steak sarnies from Tender Cow, excellent stone-baked pizza from Honest Crust, all washed down with one of Pico&#8217;s Tacos&#8217; frozen margaritas. </p>

<p>Mosey on down to Prestbury on Sun 8 Dec for this classic Christmas knees up. The brass bands will be tooting out the festive tunes, kids will run wild around the funfair, plus there will be bell ringers, face painting, live music and a whole collection of artisan market stalls to wander around. Can&#8217;t make it to Prestbury? Market consortium, Independent Street, is behind the stalls, with other Chrimbo set-ups in Middleton (Sun 15 Dec) and Chorlton Green (Sat 14 Dec). </p>
