<p>When&nbsp;<em>Run Away</em>&nbsp;hit <a href="https://www.netflix.com/gb/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Netflix</a> as the must-binge thriller of the season, I immediately curled up with a cuppa and hit play. And very quickly, I started to realise I recognised those gritty streets and sweeping landscapes. Because, my friends, the latest Harlan Coben screen adaptation is filmed right here in the North West — most notably&nbsp;Greater Manchester and Cheshire&nbsp;— where everyday towns and landmarks were transformed into the shadowy world of Simon Greene’s desperate search for his daughter.&nbsp;Here we take a look behind the scenes of <em>Run Away</em>&#8230;</p>

<p>Kick things off in one of the series’ most pivotal outdoor spaces: the Victorian‑era Alexandra Park in Oldham, with its sweeping lawns, ornate fountain and framed vistas. This leafy green spot becomes <em>Run Away</em>’s backdrop for early, tension‑soaked scenes between Simon Greene (James Nesbitt), and his daughter, Paige, who has been missing for some time, grounding the show’s emotional stakes in a real‑world setting. </p>

<p>No UK thriller set in the North would feel complete without whirling though Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Brick walls, cosy cafés, those little alleyways that feel like they have stories of their own — the series uses them perfectly. If you’ve ever grabbed a coffee at <a href="https://www.evelyns.co" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Evelyn’s</a>, you might just spot its distinctive industrial chic interior as the vegan cafe, Finch &amp; Leaf, where private investigator, Elena Rosenberg (Ruth Jones) goes about her business. </p>

<p>When Simon is darting about the fictional Landford University, looking for the elusive Professor Van De Beek, the sprawling campus of the University of Manchester steps in. If you were a student here, expect plenty of double takes, gazing at the ivy‑clad quadrangles and gothic facades, which bring plenty of Oxbridge elegance and northern character to the tense university&#8217;s scenes. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-stockport-town-centre-amp-underbanks">Stockport Town Centre &amp; Underbanks</h2>



<p>Unless you&#8217;ve been hiding beneath a rock for some time, you&#8217;ll know that&#8217;s Stockport&#8217;s Underbanks are well and truly having a moment. And it&#8217;s here, amid the cobbled streets, quirky old shops, cafes and bars, and along train and foot bridges, private investigator Elena Ravenscroft gets her steps in — there’s a lot of running around in&nbsp;<em>Run Away</em>. It’s the kind of place that feels like it was made for dramatic showdowns… I feel a guide to the Underbanks incoming. </p>

<p>Dukinfield’s Hill Street — and its surrounding residential estate — is dressed up for&nbsp;<em>Run Away</em>&nbsp;as a toughened urban backdrop where some of the story’s darker, street‑level confrontations play out. Production even added temporary graffiti and set dressing to give it a harder edge, turning everyday Greater Manchester streets into a compelling setting for some of the series’ rawest moments.&nbsp;If you&#8217;ve seen the desperate final scenes of DeeDee and Ash &#8211; you&#8217;ll know what I&#8217;m talking about. </p>

<p>The vast and shiny <a href="https://alderleypark.co.uk/museum-of-the-moon" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Alderley Park</a> doubles for the hospital, where Ingrid (Minnie Driver) works&nbsp;<em>and</em>&nbsp;ends up as a patient early on, basically living there for most of the series. The crew mostly shot on weekends, meaning they had the place pretty much to themselves, surrounded by greenery and plenty of open space. If only I&#8217;d spotted them filming during one of my walks!</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-tatton-park-unexpected-rural-twists">Tatton Park  — unexpected rural twists</h2>



<p>Also in Cheshire, sites like <a href="https://www.tattonpark.org.uk/what_to_see_and_do/farm/farm.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tatton Park Farm</a> show up in episode‑specific arcs like the “Corval Inn” scenes, when Simon goes in search of Aaron Corval&#8217;s family. Hard to imagine James Nesbitt delivering that brilliant, heart-in-your-throat acting&nbsp;in a place where I&#8217;ve taken the kids to stroke chicks and gawp at the farm&#8217;s residents. </p>
