<p>Of course the White Isle excels when it comes to clubs and partying and hedonism. But there&#8217;s a distinct sedate feel to Ibiza, away from the flash of the clubs, that can play out all your escapism fantasies. Arrive in spring when perpetual blues skies hang above Ibiza Town; where you can seek out pioneering restaurants with their own garden kitchens, under-the-radar boho bars, and earthy, playful hotels with a commitment to the green curve. The sea may be on the chilly side and you might just need to slip a cardi over your shoulders at night, but you won&#8217;t find the summer crowds or the sweltering temperatures. Plenty of time then to potter around the city&#8217;s walls and galleries and cobblestones for a long weekend. Where to stay? If you like to be right in the action, bed down in <a href="https://www.montesolexperimental.com">Montesol Experimental</a> on the main square of Paseo Vara de Rey &#8211; a once grande dame that&#8217;s been spruced up by the Experimental Group into a whimsical bolthole. Just make sure you head to the rooftop for a mezcal martini come sunset.</p>

<p>You might think midsummer is the perfect time to land in the enduringly cool capital. But spring is a gorgeous time to mooch around the immaculate cobblestone streets of Gamla Stan (the Old Town), grabbing coffee in one of the quiet courtyards running away from the main tourist drag and nipping into design-heavy stores. Though for something entirely different, spend a day or two catching boats to the Stockholm archipelago. No one really knows how many islands make up this wild archipelago, though the general consensus is around 24,000 &#8211; all of which are rooted in bucolic loveliness. Where to stay? The serene and minimalist <a href="https://www.missclarahotel.com/en/">Miss Clara</a> &#8211; a former girl&#8217;s school turned arty and hip bolthole on the super trendy strip of Sveavägen. </p>

<p>Arguably one of the world&#8217;s greatest city break destinations, Amsterdam is a heady web of canals, lively waterside hangouts and a defiantly down-to-earth spirit.&nbsp;Live like the locals &#8211; but forget the lycra &#8211; and hire your own bike for a two-wheeled tour, weaving through its parks and gardens where vast sweeps of tulips unfold during spring. Head into out-of-town Noord for a cultural crawl around its reimagined warehouses, filled with experimental art galleries and kitchens doing wonderful things with seafood.&nbsp;&nbsp;Looking for a party? The riotous King’s Day falls on Sat 26 April &#8211; expect flowing booze, parties and a lotta orange. Where to stay? It&#8217;s gotta be the classic <a href="https://www.pulitzeramsterdam.com/en/">Pulitzer Amsterdam</a> &#8211; an iconic hotel stretching across 25 reimagined canal houses, where cocktails are de rigeur in the art deco-style bar.</p>

<p>The&nbsp;Renaissance city&nbsp;is in full bloom during spring, and with thinning crowds and not-too-hot temps, it&#8217;s easy to bask in its world-class art and palazzos and artisanal shops. My tip? Beeline to its hidden Iris Garden, that opens its doors for just a few weeks in April and May, when hundreds of varieties of iris (the symbol of Florence since 1251) are in full bloom. Or to the Giardino Bardini, draped in wisteria. Stay in <a href="https://thehoxton.com/italy/florence/">The Hoxton</a> &#8211; the latest offshoot from the hip brand in the heart of the historic centre. </p>

As for your digs? Bed down in the ultra-cool <a href="https://villacopenhagen.com/">Villa Copenhagen</a> whose green-leaning kitchen is headed up by Chef Tore Gustafsson, with a carbon-free and zero-waste concept menu, using ingredients from a hidden garden. </p>
