There&#8217;s an immense sense of calm about the place, from restorative walks up to White Nancy – the cylindrical white folly overlooking the town – to wanders along canal towpaths. And in the centre, you&#8217;ll find a handful of independents going about their business, lending Bollington the quiet confidence it has in its own rhythms. </p>

<p>Kick your day off with a trip into <a href="https://www.no74deli.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">No 74 Deli</a>, stacked with local goodies and sandwiches the size of your head. You won&#8217;t want to leave without plunging your fork into a wedge of their spectacular cakes. All superb. For top-notch brunch plates, mosey on over to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/thegreenbollington/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Green Bollington</a>, a honey-hued caff that excels with its sunny brekkie dishes. There&#8217;s nothing more enticing than bagging a window seat here when the morning light seeps through the space. Oh, and if it&#8217;s on the menu, you gotta go for the black pud chorizo hash stack. Elsewhere, small-plates fave spot Tapa has just closed its doors, but the space has already been taken over by a duo who have renamed it <a href="https://www.instagram.com/coupebollington/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Coupe</a> with a  rotating line-up of chefs and pop-ups in the pipeline. </p>



<p>Valuing the importance of provenance and seasonality before it was fashionable is <a href="https://www.limetreebollington.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Lime Tree</a> (with a sister restaurant in Didsbury), whose kitchen plucks much of their ingredients from their very own farm. When the sun&#8217;s out, nab a space on the terrace garden and you&#8217;ll be astounded at the wholesome, flavoursome plates delivered to your table. </p>



<p>We are gutted to hear that <a href="https://www.instagram.com/kirabollington/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">KIRA</a> – an Indian-inspired neighbourhood restaurant has just shut its doors. The dream of chef Sunitha, we have no doubt she&#8217;ll be launching something just as brilliant and thoughtful – though in the meantime, she can be booked for private cheffing events. </p>

<p>Not so much in the way of women&#8217;s boutiques or lifestyle stores. But if it&#8217;s cheese and wine you&#8217;re after, there&#8217;s no better place than <a href="https://knowlesgreen.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Knowles Green</a> – an intimate and charming spot where the staff know everything there is to know about, well, cheese and wine. A scattering of chairs means there&#8217;s space for punters to pull up a pew and quaff a wine or two whilst grazing on a cheese board. And the team host regular pop ups, from artisan pizza to Venezuelan plates. It&#8217;a a place to keep coming back to. </p>



<p>Elsewhere, <a href="https://wearerootstock.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ROOTSTOCK</a> is the organic, refillable store you need in your life, stacked with fruit and veggies and a whole hoard of grocery items and lifestyle bits and bobs. The concept has taken off magnificently, as they&#8217;ve opened an offshoot in Alderley Edge. You can order grocery boxes, too. Finally, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Belfieldsvillagebakery/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bellfields Village Baker</a> has been around for decades with a sterling reputation for its just-baked pies and bread. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>

<p>The HQ of all things wellness, <a href="https://www.bollingtonyoga.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bollington Yoga</a> is pitched in town with a revolving calendar of yoga sessions, sound baths, yoga trapeze, plus a host of bookable treatments, including reiki, reflexology, and massage. They also have special events, from summer solstice day retreats to full moon shake-ups. Elsewhere, Mother Nature Sanctuary is a holistic therapy-led centre for one-to-one treatments and supportive sessions.</p>



<p>Looking to get fit? <a href="https://bollingtonleisure.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bollington Health &amp; Leisure Centre</a> is a not-for-profit, health and fitness charity, with a large swimming pool, group classes and state-of-the-art gym. A short drive away, you can play golf on a championship course, sign up to fitness classes or hide away in the spa at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thetytheringtonclub.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tytherington Club</a>. &nbsp;And the spa at <a href="https://www.shrigleyhallhotelandspa.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Shrigley Hall</a> is worth a day pass. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>There&#8217;s a reason residents of Bollington have dubbed the town &#8220;Happy Valley&#8221;. Community is a big deal, from local Canalside Radio, to Bollington Festival, a biannual shindig that was conceived in 1964 and filled with arty activities. Plus there&#8217;s the annual Christmas Fayre.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-nearby-attractions">NEARBY ATTRACTIONS</h2>



<p>A stomp up to White Nancy is a rite of passage for anyone living in Bollington. But in every direction, the town is ringed by swathes of verdant countryside. Stomp into Macclesfield Forest, a tangle of wilderness where walkers climb the hill of Shuttlingsloe or wander up the peak of Tegg’s Nose before it rolls into the untamed expanse of the Peak District. For wild swimming, camping, hill walking and a load of old school boozers with roaring fires.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Just head on over to the <a href="https://www.bollingtonartscentre.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bollington Arts Centre </a>with a packed&nbsp;programme of concerts, talks, classes and exhibitions throughout the year. There&#8217;s the brilliant and original Northern Makes gallery for emerging and established artists you won’t find on the high street.&nbsp;And <a href="https://www.northernexposureart.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Northern Exposure Art</a>, run by local abstract artist Mel Hood, whose walls stand proud with local and international artists.</p>



<p>Head into Macclesfield and film buffs can catch blockbusters and live screenings of opera and drama at indie&nbsp;<a href="https://cinemac.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cinemac Cinema</a>, whilst theatre productions are played out at the&nbsp;<a href="https://madstheatre.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MADS Theatre</a>, though Manchester’s thriving cultural scene is only 20 mins away by train. An absolute must during the summer months is outdoor theatre in the Elizabethan pleasure garden of Tudor manor house,&nbsp;<a href="https://gawsworthhall.com/theatre/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gawsworth Hall</a>.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Plod on over to Waukmill Wood, covering the slopes of Kerridge Hill and tumbling down towards Bollington &#8211; home to one of Cheshire’s only waterfalls: a great, rushing torrent of water that few people seem to know about. The fact is there’s no car park. And the only way to reach it is via a trail from Bollington, winding through the wood where you’ll eventually pop out close to the mini falls. </p>

<p>Hop on the train at Macclesfield (10 mins away) and you can be in Manchester city centre in 20 mins, or London Euston in just under 2 hrs.</p>
