<p>A tiny village with big aspirations, Mottram St Andrew is the picture of bucolic loveliness. <p>This being a tiny village spread across swathes of greenery, you&#8217;re not going to find a thriving foodie scene. But you will find <a href="https://www.brunningandprice.co.uk/bullshead/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Bull&#8217;s Head Mottram</a> &#8211; a corker of a boozer that&#8217;s a glorious place to sun yourself on a summer’s day. When the windows are thrown open and diners dawdle about the terrace, it&#8217;s pure bliss. Inside, a handful of crooked dining rooms and low-slung beams add to the charm &#8211; and it’s all surrounded by some of the prettiest rural scenes in Cheshire. </p>



<p>Fling your boots on, head out for a stomp, and find your way back here for a long languid afternoon. When you&#8217;re craving spot-on coffee, a giant wedge of cake or a hearty stew, potter on over to <a href="https://brookhousefarmshop.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brook House Farm Shop</a> &#8211; a family-run store sitting on the fringes of the vast farm, whose livestock is reared using sustainable methods. </p>

<p>So when you buy a bit of beef, pork or lamb from their butchers, you know it’s going to be bang on. Its shelves are filled with a smorgasbord of local produce and its cafe is a lovely little pit-stop with a kid&#8217;s play area &#8211; just make sure you leave room for one of the saccharine gooey brownies from <a href="https://bakedbybean.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Baked By Bean</a>. </p>

<p>The aforementioned Brook House Farm Shop is a valuable emporium to all things local. Nudge a few minutes north and you&#8217;ll arrive at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thecheshirebutcher.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Cheshire Butcher</a>&nbsp;where prime meat is reared on neighbouring Cherry Tree Farm with a Himalayan salt chamber. </p>



<p>Looking for designer clobber?&nbsp;You&#8217;ll need to drive the five mins to Prestbury where <a href="https://www.dresscheshire.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dress Cheshire</a>&nbsp;has rightfully gained a reputation for its pre-loved designer garments sold at cut-down prices. There’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/rococoprestbury/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rococo</a>, too, a curated interiors store that’s always worth a mooch for anything from scented candles to accessories and side tables. Fancy treating yourself to a bunch of blooms? Head on over to&nbsp;<a href="https://prestburyflowers.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Prestbury Flowers</a>, a wild, floral bloom haven where every bouquet packs a serious punch.</p>

<p>Village life definitely moves to its own mellow beat here. Mottram St Andrew is a defiantly dozy sort of place, though the village hall is the centre of any happenings, from live music to local groups. </p>

<p>You&#8217;re in proper rural territory and it&#8217;d be rude not to pull on your flat cap and lose yourself along its hiking paths, where views unfold to Manchester lingering in the haze. Nearby is National Trust-owned <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/cheshire-greater-manchester/hare-hill" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hare Hill</a>, with its tended walled garden and parkland. It’s a gorgeous spot to potter about with little ones, while keen walkers after a longer stomp can head through parkland all the way over to Alderley Edge, passing wildflower speckled meadows and trees bursting with magnolia during spring.</p>
