<p>We sat down with one of Cheshire&#8217;s best-loved interior designers, Holly Lamont of <a href="https://www.holladesign.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Holla Design</a>, to take a look at her gorgeous projects. Known for conjuring thoughtful, characterful spaces, with a focus on colour, texture and timeless design, her work blends contemporary style with a lived-in, personal feel — creating homes that are functional and ridiculously beautiful. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-spring-2026-design-trends-are-you-most-excited-about-and-why-do-you-think-they-re-resonating-right-now">What spring 2026 design trends are you most excited about and why do you think they’re resonating right now? </h2>



<p>Colour is having a real moment. We&#8217;ve moved beyond the white and grey era into warmer neutrals, and now I’m seeing clients ready for something bolder. Colour has always been central to my work and often why clients seek me out. It’s about finding the right shade for the right room, thinking about the mood you want to create and how natural light moves through the space. Blue is the colour I’m predicting most strongly for 2026. It’s incredibly versatile and can feel muted and meditative or vivid and energising depending on how it’s used.</p>



<p>I explored this on a recent project, Tarvin Treat, a characterful Victorian home where we used a blue-led palette to enhance the original features rather than compete with them. By layering in warmer tones and natural textures, the space feels rich and expressive while still balanced, which is key when introducing bolder colour into period properties.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-how-do-you-differentiate-between-a-fleeting-trend-and-one-that-offers-long-lasting-value-in-a-home">How do you differentiate between a fleeting trend and one that offers long-lasting value in a home?</h2>



<p>This can be difficult to judge. The key is to take elements of a trend and incorporate them in a way that feels natural rather than overly led by fashion. It’s almost impossible to completely escape trends because they influence the products available in shops and showrooms.</p>



<p>In reality, most people are looking for something timeless, but I’m not sure true timelessness really exists. Many styles return again and again. Mid-century modern is a good example, it has moved in and out of favour many times since it first appeared. For me, quality is what really determines longevity. A well-made piece will always have a place.</p>



<p>It ultimately comes down to balance. I like to mix vintage with new pieces and embrace trends that genuinely resonate with the client. If you truly love a colour, texture or piece of furniture, you’re unlikely to suddenly dislike it just because it’s no longer ‘in’.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-for-someone-wanting-a-spring-update-on-a-budget-what-are-the-most-impactful-yet-affordable-ways-to-refresh-a-space">For someone wanting a spring update on a budget, what are the most impactful yet affordable ways to refresh a space?</h2>



<p>Textiles are one of the quickest ways to shift a room into a new season. Swapping heavier winter fabrics for lighter linens or cottons instantly lifts a space, and introducing a new cushion or throw is an easy way to bring in fresh colour or pattern.</p>



<p>Styling also makes a bigger difference than people realise. Reworking shelves, adding a sculptural vase, or introducing seasonal flowers can bring new energy into a room without spending much at all.</p>



<p>If you’re open to a slightly bigger change, paint is still one of the most transformative tools we have. Even small moments of colour can make a difference. In my own home, I painted the skirting and coving in Farrow &amp; Ball’s Selvedge against pale pink walls, which adds depth and a bit of character without overwhelming the space.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-role-do-colour-and-pattern-play-in-spring-trends-this-year-and-how-do-you-help-clients-select-palettes-that-feel-fresh-but-not-dated">What role do colour and pattern play in spring trends this year and how do you help clients select palettes that feel fresh but not dated?</h2>



<p>Spring naturally invites a more playful use of colour and pattern. This year I’m seeing people move towards layered palettes, where softer blues, greens and earthy reds sit together rather than everything matching perfectly.</p>



<p>When working with clients, I focus first on the feeling they want the room to create. From there we build a palette with a calm base and introduce colour or pattern in more flexible ways through fabrics, artwork or smaller pieces. It keeps the scheme feeling fresh but also gives it longevity.</p>



<p>I used this approach on a coastal project called Abersoch Hideout, where we kept the walls neutral and layered colour through furniture and styling. A bespoke artwork commissioned from local artist Jonty at Cardigan Creative became the anchor for the living room, bringing personality and tying the whole palette together.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-how-do-you-guide-clients-who-are-unsure-about-trends-or-overwhelmed-by-choices">How do you guide clients who are unsure about trends or overwhelmed by choices? </h2>



<p>Most clients come to me feeling overwhelmed because there is so much inspiration online. My role is really about editing. We start by talking about how they actually live in the space, how they use it day to day, the atmosphere they want to create and the pieces they already love.</p>



<p>From there I narrow things down into a clear direction so they’re not faced with endless options. Trends might influence certain details, but the foundation of the scheme always comes back to the client’s lifestyle and personality. That way the finished space feels natural to live in rather than designed purely to follow a trend.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-are-sustainable-or-eco-friendly-materials-trending-this-spring-and-how-do-you-integrate-them-into-residential-projects">Are sustainable or eco-friendly materials trending this spring and how do you integrate them into residential projects?</h2>



<p>Sustainability is becoming less of a ‘trend’ and more of an expectation in interior design. Clients are far more conscious of where materials come from and how long pieces will last.</p>



<p>In practice, that often means prioritising natural materials such as solid wood, linen, wool and stone, alongside sourcing vintage or reclaimed pieces where possible. I like to mix those elements with newer items so a space feels layered rather than overly new. It’s a more thoughtful way of designing and usually results in interiors that feel richer and more personal over time.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-how-do-you-ensure-that-seasonal-trends-don-t-compromise-timelessness-especially-for-clients-investing-in-long-term-interior-changes">How do you ensure that seasonal trends don’t compromise timelessness &#8211; especially for clients investing in long-term interior changes?</h2>



<p>Longevity usually comes from the foundations of a space. I tend to keep the bigger, more permanent elements such as joinery, flooring and key furniture pieces considered and well balanced rather than driven by what’s trending in the moment.</p>



<p>If we want to reference something more current, I usually introduce it through elements that are easier to change over time such as fabrics, lighting or smaller decorative pieces. It allows a space to feel current when it’s finished, but still gives it the flexibility to evolve naturally over the years.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-looking-beyond-spring-are-there-upcoming-2026-design-movements-you-think-will-carry-through-into-autumn-winter">Looking beyond spring, are there upcoming 2026 design movements you think will carry through into autumn/winter?</h2>



<p>I think the move towards richer, more characterful interiors will continue to build as we move through the year. People are becoming far more confident with depth in a space, whether that’s through darker colours, layered materials or furniture that has a sculptural presence.</p>



<p>I also expect we’ll continue to see a shift away from overly minimal interiors towards rooms that feel more collected. Mixing vintage pieces with contemporary design and allowing spaces to evolve gradually, creates homes that feel far more personal and interesting than something that looks too perfectly put together.</p>
