Known as the&nbsp;&#8216;cathedral of the canals&#8217; and one of the UK’s&nbsp;Seven Wonders of the Waterways, this Victorian engineering marvel hoists boats 50 feet between waterways with zero drama. While the visitor centre is free, the real magic comes via vibrant exhibitions, hands-on displays and even a retro arcade for big and small. Oh, and seating with a view? The café terrace overlooks the lift &#8211; perfect for coffee, cake, and a bit of canal-side daydreaming. The pièce de résistance? A playful, boat-themed playground (slide, climbing, mini maze included), a load of greenery, and nearby woodland and canal walks for exploring (and insta-snaps).</p>

<p>This leafy former railway line is now a veritable playground for walkers, cyclists and mini explorers. Take your kids and their bikes along wooded paths, spotting birds and plucking blackberries as you go. <p>While the Walled Garden at this monastic site is ticketed, the surrounding woodland is totally free to roam. Think winding paths, wooden sculptures, bug-hunting opportunities, and heaps of fresh air. It’s a peaceful, magical space that really shines in spring and autumn, with carpets of wildflowers or crunchy leaves underfoot. The trails are mostly flat, making them ideal for pushchairs and smaller explorers. A great low-key day out where imagination can run wild — no wallet required.</p>

<p>Lush, easy-going, and 100% free to enjoy — the 1.5 km circular route around Lymm Dam&nbsp;is a family favourite. This flat, well-paved trail is ideal for pushchairs, scooters, little legs, and even pretty-in-every-season wildflowers and wildlife viewing. Expect ducks, herons, and kingfishers gliding past as you stroll through this peaceful nature spot. A coffee van (and sometimes ice cream) sets up shop at the dam, keeping bribes and refreshment levels well above zero. Need more adventure? Potter into&nbsp;Lymm village&nbsp;or wander along the scenic&nbsp;Bridgewater Canal towpath&nbsp;or the Trans‑Pennine Trail. <p>A woodland wonderland with free Stick Man-themed activities for the littlest adventurers. Follow the trail through towering trees, climb, balance, and hurtle through natural play zones. Plus there&#8217;s a new play area, too. Entry is free, though parking isn&#8217;t. It’s the ultimate wild-child escape, with just the right amount of magic.</p>
