And while Cheshire may have been overlooked on the latest &#8216;best bakeries list, trust us — this county more than holds its own. Here’s where to head for the very best bakes in Cheshire.</p>

<p> Tarporley&#8217;s wildly popular bakery is a stalwart on the Cheshire scene, rightfully regarded for its small-batch, artisan baking done properly. Shelves are loaded with traditional sweet bakes, billowing loaves, and insane pastries crafted with precision. This spot is takeaway, though across the road, the team has a sit-down tearoom with all the traditional frills, and afternoon tea dished up. </p>

<p>You&#8217;ll always spot a queue snaking out the door of this saccharine joint  – but it’s worth making the pilgrimage and standing in line for its soft and crumbly brookies, cookies, brownies and donuts. Helmed by sisters Lydia and Millie, Buzzy Bee is truly a domain for sweet lovers, where the sisters do a roaring trade in light, fluffy brioche donuts with biscoff and jammy centres; pies of honeycomb and white chocolate, giant brookies, and insane cake jars.&nbsp;But the treat you really need to try is their tiered, frosted cakes the team are now famous for. Can&#8217;t make it to the Wilmslow branch? They have one in the Northern Quarter, or they can deliver direct to your door.</p>

Behind the scenes, husband-and-husband duo, Mika and Dan, are proper experts in crafting astonishing cakes (their brownies are out-of-this-world). </p>

<p>Kookaburra Bakehouse&nbsp;brings a slice of Antipodean baking to&nbsp;Chester, with hand-crafted focaccia and buttery pastries filling up the counter from baking pro, Jessica Reynolds. Pop inside and you&#8217;ll find pistachio croissants, loaded sourdough, pecan maple doughnuts, choc honeycomb cruffins, cinnamon twists and more &#8211; all of which are made fresh on-site each day, plus a heap of Aussie snacks.</p>

<p>Stephanie Peters is the culinary genius behind&nbsp;Pastry Pedaleur, a passion-fuelled patisserie turning heads at&nbsp;New Chester Market. A former pastry chef at the Chester Grosvenor with stints at London’s Miel, her creations are fiercely innovative and endlessly creative – from lavender, honey and dark chocolate macarons to rum-soaked Caribbean cake, and wild strawberry danishes with passionfruit curd. And Stephanie’s wizardry doesn&#8217;t just lie in the sweet stuff &#8211; she&#8217;s also a whizz with savoury bakes, and her Goan chorizo pithiviers are the stuff of legend. </p>

Heralding traditional baking techniques and joining the wave of artisan bakeries across the country, Bradwall Bakehouse sits inside the former Village Hall, dishing up just-baked traditional farmhouse style loaves, a range of sourdoughs and flaky pastries, and locally-sourced deli bits for bulging sarnies. </p>
