<p>I&#8217;ve said it before and I&#8217;ll say it again, Chester is one of the UK&#8217;s most underrated cities. However, it seems, people are starting to sit up and finally take notice &#8211; and the opening of <a href="https://ivycollection.com/the-ivy-news/introducing-the-ivy-chester-brasserie/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Ivy</a> is evidence of its growing appeal.</p>



<p>Yes, my friends, you heard me correctly &#8211; <a href="https://ivycollection.com/the-ivy-news/introducing-the-ivy-chester-brasserie/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Ivy Chester Brasserie</a> will open on Newgate Street on&nbsp;<strong>Tues 28 April</strong>, bringing the brand’s glossy all‑day dining and cocktails to the city centre as the&nbsp;46th&nbsp;restaurant in The Ivy Collection.</p>



<p>And on the menu? There will be polished brunches, long, languid lunches and seasonally-inspired dishes, washed down with cocktails as day morphs into night &#8211; all under one (very photogenic) roof. I&#8217;d get your name down pronto.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-bewilderwood-is-heading-for-the-lakes"><a href="https://bewilderwood.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BeWILDerwood is heading for the Lakes</a> </h2>

<p>A new <a href="https://bewilderwood.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BeWILDerwood </a>adventure park is set to take over Brockhole‑on‑Windermere, the Lake District National Park’s original visitor centre, with the wild wooden play brand already known for its storybook treehouses and zip wires in Norfolk and Cheshire stepping in as operator from April. The plan is for BeWILDerwood to bring its trademark giant slides, high‑up walkways and imaginative outdoor play to the lakeside site while keeping the grounds, paths and cafés free to access, so you can still do a gentle pram‑push or scooter stroll without committing to full‑on dangling‑from‑a‑zip‑wire energy. There will also be a new indoor play area for those grim, rainy days.</p>



<p>Now, we know we’re the lucky ones here in Cheshire with our very own 70‑acre BeWILDerwood near Whitchurch – all wobbly bridges, massive mazes and character‑packed treehouses. But look at it this way: next time you’re up in the Lake District, the kids get their wild woodland‑adventure fix there too, while you get the views and a sneaky coffee.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-gordon-ramsay-is-coming-to-cheshire">Gordon Ramsay is coming to Cheshire </h2>

<p>One for you foodies out there&#8230; so the rumours are true. Gordon Ramsay is set to unveil a brand-new restaurant at the freshly rebranded Fairmont Cheshire, <a href="https://themereresort.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Mere</a>, set to open late 2026 as part of the historic Knutsford resort’s multi-million-pound glow‑up.</p>



<p>Dubbed&nbsp;Gordon Ramsay at The Mere, the 120‑cover venue will take over as the hotel’s flagship dining spot, dishing up Ramsay’s flavour‑packed modern British menu – wood‑fired grills, small plates and sustainable seafood. All of which is an integral part of The Mere’s £60 million transformation into Fairmont Hotels and Resorts’ fifth UK pad, complete with revamped rooms, spa upgrades and dreamy public spaces. Bookings open soon, so watch this space.</p>

<p>Cheshire Day is back on <strong>30 March</strong> – a county-wide excuse to shout about everything that makes this corner of the world brilliant. The date marks the 1300 Charter of Liberties granted by King Edward I, and 2026’s theme, ‘Made in Cheshire’, is all about the things we craft, grow, distil and dream up here at home, plus the makers and mavericks who’ve shaped the county’s character.</p>



<p>In the run-up to Cheshire Day (23–30 March), there’s plenty on the menu. Down in Farndon, husband-and-wife duo Felix Shore and Anna Roseblade-Shore at <a href="https://www.restaurant209.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Restaurant 209</a> are serving a special Cheshire Tart – a traditional local pud. Over at the Cat &amp; Fiddle above Macclesfield, <a href="https://theforestdistillery.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Forest Distillery</a> will be shaking up a bespoke Cheshire Day cocktail, The Macc Forest Fizz, with dry vermouth, fresh lime and handmade pine-infused syrup using Cheshire pines. For a full-on Cheshire-inspired feast, book a table at <a href="https://thepheasantinn.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Pheasant Inn</a> in Higher Burwardsley, then roll next door to the <a href="https://www.theicecreamfarm.co.uk/drive-in/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ice Cream Drive In</a> (by The Ice Cream Farm) to claim 20% off orders from 14 March to 5 April. All of these, and more local favourites, will appear on an interactive map so you can literally eat and drink your way around Cheshire Day.</p>



<p>On Cheshire Day itself, you can bag yourself FREE rail travel into Chester with Merseyrail (just make sure you request your ticket online by 12pm on Thurs 26 March 2026 and travel on Monday 30 March only). </p>
