<p>The swathes of white snowdrops are the stuff of legend at this sprawling estate near Congleton &#8211; and it&#8217;s undoubtedly one of the most popular snowdrops walks in Cheshire. Every year, it opens its doors for official snowdrop walks, where visitors plod down its paths in The Old Wood and The Wild Garden in amid the cascading white flowers, of which are there more than 70 varieties. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-quarry-bank-mill"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/cheshire-greater-manchester/quarry-bank" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Quarry Bank Mill</a></h2>



<p>Wander in any direction around Chapel Woods &#8211; the wild tangle fringing the mill &#8211; and you&#8217;ll be able to walk among snowdrops that have unfurled around the roots of its trees. More of the white flowers can be spotted in the Orchard and you can always tie your visit to the mill with a Snugbury&#8217;s ice cream. Or head a little further away and into Styal village where the fires of <a href="https://www.theshipstyal.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Ship Inn</a> will be roaring and a large glass of red will warm the cockles.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-dunham-massey"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/cheshire-greater-manchester/dunham-massey" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dunham Massey</a></h2>



<p>Whether you&#8217;re hauling along the kids or out for a walk à deux, Dunham Massey is one of those dreamy wild places you can easily lose yourself for an hour or two. It&#8217;s also home to one of the largest winter gardens in the UK which truly comes alive from January and into early spring with thousands of buds unfurling, from early narcissus followed by snowdrops and carpets of iris and scilla, crocus and chionodoxa. &nbsp;And if you catch the deer strutting through the snowdrops, well, that&#8217;s your Insta post sorted. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-arley-hall-and-gardens"><a href="https://www.arleyhallandgardens.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Arley Hall and Gardens</a></h2>



<p>Remember the imitable Tommy Shelby and his grand mansion in <em>Peaky Blinders</em>? The formidable <a href="https://www.arleyhallandgardens.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Arley Hall</a> was the brooding setting for the Brummie gangster and his family, where kids beaver about its play area and grown-ups inspect its immaculately tended gardens. Go now to mooch along The Grove &amp; Woodland Walk, surrounded by clusters of snowdrops. Also o<a href="https://www.arleyhallandgardens.com/whats-on/whats-on-in-february/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">n this month at Arley</a>, you can sign up to botanical watercolour workshops (<strong>8, 15, 22 Feb</strong>), an alcohol ink on canvas workshop By Stephanie Claire Art (<strong>28 Feb</strong>), and willow weaving workshop (<strong>20 Feb</strong>).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-ness-botanic-gardens"><a href="https://www.visitcheshire.com/things-to-do/ness-botanic-gardens-p31741" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ness Botanic Gardens</a></h2>



<p>Stretching across 64 acres on the Wirral Peninsula, Ness has some extraordinarily idyllic gardens. Beeline over here to catch views of the River Dee and North Wales and the carpets of snowdrops that light up the gardens in a blaze of white. From Sat 7 Feb until Mon 2 March, the team curate family snowdrop trails, where kids scamper around the snowdrops and have a go at sketching the flowers. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-lyme-park"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/cheshire-greater-manchester/lyme" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lyme Park</a></h2>



<p>Arrive in the winter gardens at this wild estate on a frosty day and wander over to the lake where snowdrops will be blooming until March. Given its lofty location on the edge of the Peak District, the park unfolds with killer views of its windswept moorland and if you look hard enough, you might even spot pink-tipped Daphne flowers and winter iris blossoming around the gardens.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-rhs-garden-bridgewater"><a href="https://www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/bridgewater" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">RHS Garden Bridgewater</a> </h2>



<p>We can&#8217;t mention gardens and everything botanic without including the revived gardens of the historic Worsley New Hall estate. Wander over to the Lower Middle Wood and the Bee and Butterfly Garden where clusters of snowdrops crop up and towards the Chinese Water Garden and you&#8217;ll spot other spring bulbs just beginning to rear their heads.  And because you&#8217;ve done all that walking, you&#8217;d better grab a large scone with extra cream in its A-grade caff.</p>
