<p>Long days, sultry evenings, bright, brilliant blue skies. Summer is finally here. Which means swapping hibernating on the sofa for dreamy languid walks after you&#8217;ve clocked off. And if you manage to catch a sunset too, well, that&#8217;s peachy. From sky high city views to challenging hill climbs, here we reveal our fave sunset spots in and around Cheshire.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-mam-tor-nbsp">Mam Tor&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Over in the Peak District, wildly popular Mam Tor is consistently voted one of the best sunset spots in the country thanks to its elevated position at 517 metres and sweeping golden views. Park up at the National Trust car park and trot up the well-maintained path, hiking the three-mile circular walk that skirts the ridge of the iconic hill for dramatic visions of the Edale Valley, Kinder Scout and the Derwent Moors. The only catch with Mam Tor is it does get busy. My advice? Set your alarm early, instead, and stride to the peak for sunrise.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-alderley-edge">Alderley Edge</h2>



<p>The Edge is an always alluring spot, filled with tales and legends of sleeping knights and wizards creeping underground. And whenever you turn up here, mooching through thick woodland along stony paths, you’ll always soak up a bit of the mystery of place. Though arrive for sunset when the true magic of the Edge unfolds, following the route away from Stormy Point where the tourists go and towards the ledge opening to hazy views of Manchester and cracking sunset vistas. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-cloud-nbsp">The Cloud&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Sunsets are extra special at this 300-metre-high peak, striking out above the border of Cheshire and Staffordshire. And it&#8217;s not just adored for its killer views of the Cheshire Plain and the Peak District. Hike up through serene woodland to The Cloud’s highest point and you’ll be granted with a double sunset &#8211; a rare astro-geographical phenomenon where the sun appears to set twice in the same evening, melting into the horizon behind The Cloud, before re-emerging and setting again from the other side.&nbsp;Now that&#8217;s magic. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-shuttlingsloe">Shuttlingsloe</h2>

<p>Over near the wild sprawl of Macclesfield Forest, Shuttlingsloe juts out of the earth like a clenched fist, and it’s this distinctive shape that has earned the hill its name, the Matterhorn of Cheshire. Start out in the thick forest with its tangle of conifers, rising gradually along the well-worn route through upland meadows to the tip of Shuttlingsloe. It&#8217;s here you can catch the sun setting, turning everything &#8211; the Peak District, the sweeping Cheshire Plain, and even the towers of Manchester &#8211; peachy gold as the light dwindles. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-lyme-park">Lyme Park</h2>



<p>Pitched on the fringes of the Peak District, this once gargantuan sporting ground is now a fave spot for locals to trudge through woodland and gaze towards Manchester and the Cheshire Plain from its golden moorland. Whichever spot you find yourself in, it’s all gorgeous at sunset, especially if you find yourself on the moors, gazing across to the melting sun.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-salford-quays">Salford Quays</h2>

<p>If you&#8217;re seeking something less laborious but just as striking, drive on over to Salford Quays and pootle along the banks of the quays. By day it&#8217;s buzzing with swimmers floating in the waters, and walkers and bikers busying themselves around the waterfront. And as dusk descends, catch the sun dropping into the water to a soundtrack of clinking glasses and excitable chatter from restaurants and bars buzzing until late. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-liverpool-waterfront">Liverpool Waterfront</h2>

<p>For dreamy waterside views in this rambunctious city, wander along the waterfront as the light begins to dwindle, where urban sprawl meets the River Mersey. Catch golden hour in all its glory from the dock where the ferries trundle between the waterfront and the Wirral peninsula. Or sit yourself down in the shadow of the Liver Building, gazing across the water. </p>
