<p>Poking into the flinty waters of the Irish Sea, the Llyn Peninsula is an enduringly cool coastal escape, drawing crowds of Cheshire dwellers to its wild beaches, sheltered coves and pockets of adventure. And on the southern coast, unfolding around a smooth crescent of sand is Abersoch, the once-sleepy Welsh village that&#8217;s evolved into a sun-drenched, boujee coastal town, where indie boutiques rub shoulders with surf shacks, and the rosé flows freely by 3pm. Though for all its Range Rovers and swishy linen, there’s just enough salty scruff around the edges to keep it from feeling too curated. </p>

<p>One of the most coveted tables in town, this coastal-inspired restaurant plucks the very best from the daily hauls and brings them direct to the tables. When the sun&#8217;s out, pink-cheeked diners stretch out on the terrace, strung with blue-cushioned chairs, where icy Aperols, hand-dived scallops and crab linguine bring all the Amalfi energy (with a British twist). </p>

Pop inside Two Islands, an ice-cream parlour that&#8217;s also a forward-thinking caff of minimalist interiors, punchy espresso, and a barista crew that wouldn’t look out of place in Hackney. Come for the flat white, stay for the people-watching and perfectly curated surf-meets-Scandi vibe. Oh, and naturally, the ice cream is insane, too. </p>

<p>Tucked just off the main drag, this wood-fired haven brings a slice of Neapolitan swagger to the Welsh coast. Expect hot, billowing pizzas pulled out the oven, confidently simple toppings (fiery nduja, sharp pecorino, perfect basil), and pure beachy energy. Nab a table on the terrace &#8211; it&#8217;s exactly where you want to be after golden hour swims and salty afternoons on the sands. </p>

<p>Where&nbsp;easy-breezy Baja vibes&nbsp;collide with North Wales cool, this sun-drenched hideaway serves up cracking tacos (zingy fish, smoky pulled pork, and tangy slaw), best devoured with a salt-rimmed margarita and sand still on your ankles. With surfboards stacked by the door and music that drifts from Latin beats to laid-back indie, this is&nbsp;Abersoch’s answer to Tulum, minus the jet lag.</p>

<p>Undoubtedly, Abersoch’s most in-demand postcode, where&nbsp;beachfront lodges come with golf buggies, gym memberships, and the kind of soft-serve sunsets that make you forget you&#8217;re still in the UK. Less caravan park, more&nbsp;<em>Hamptons-on-Sea</em>, The Warren is where Cheshire’s glossiest set migrates when the school term ends, for wide open<strong> </strong>skies and morning dips just steps from your door. A bit like a Soho Farmhouse with more paddleboards and less mud.</p>

<p>Golden sands, calm waters, and the iconic candy-coloured beach huts, Abersoch main beach is classic bucket-and-spade territory, where paddleboarders glide past anchored yachts, labradors chase driftwood, and barefoot afternoons end in rose on sunbleached towels and beach bonfires. Just a few hours here and I promise you&#8217;ll be checking Rightmove for a second home. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-hire-a-boat-or-paddleboard">Hire a boat or paddleboard</h2>



<p>Fancy getting out on the water? Head to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.abersochwatersports.co.uk">Abersoch Watersports&nbsp;</a>for paddleboard hire &#8211; you’ll glide past rugged headlands and hidden coves on glassy waters, mirroring wide skies and the occasional bobbing yacht. Just make sure your wetsuit matches your mani. Hidden beach your thing? Hop in a boat and glide over to Sixpenny Beach &#8211; an under-the-radar cove backed by dunes and lapped with waters as clear as gin. Or fancy taking on some waves over at the brooding shoreline of Hell&#8217;s Mouth  &#8211; a wild, four-mile crescent of unfiltered Atlantic energy. Locals know when to go — and when not to — but if you catch it at its best, you’ll understand why it’s quietly worshipped by those who chase surf without the crowds.</p>

<p>Blow away the cobwebs and forge along a section of the 110-mile&nbsp;Llŷn Coastal Path,&nbsp;unraveling from Abersoch with rugged and cinematic scenes, past&nbsp;hidden bays, sea-slicked rocks, and weather-worn cottages. Squint hard enough and you might even spot seals or porpoises ducking and diving in the glassy waters. </p>
