<p>It&#8217;s a universal truth that Wilmslow is packed with glossy appeal. But scratch beneath its shiny veneer and there&#8217;s so much more to the town. Not least its thriving foodie scene. From glossy Thais to all-day-dining faves, here we reveal where to eat in Wilmslow&#8230;.</p>

<p>A stalwart on the Wilmslow, this beloved bar, running over three floors, draws punters for early morning brekkie dishes, all the way until last orders after nightfall. Yet this is no run-of-the-mill all-day dining space &#8211; the kitchen plucks much of its ingredients from The Cheshire Smokehouse; the revered farm shop over in Morley Green. Which means every morsel is exceptional, from the smoked bacon dished up at breakfast, to the small plates during the evening, from homemade hummus, to the garlicky king prawns, the seabass cooked with coconut, and the Korean butter bean curry. So successful is their venture, they&#8217;ve just opened up another offshoot in Knutsford. The best seat in the house? When the sun&#8217;s shining, run upstairs to the first floor terrace, overlooking the passing Range Rovers and everyday theatre of Water Lane.</p>

<p>Don&#8217;t tell me I&#8217;m the only one who sometimes dreams about their old free-spirited self? Backpacking around Asia and revelling in the lazy, hazy scene of Thailand&#8217;s dreamy islands? Well, this restaurant can&#8217;t take you to the golden shores of Ko Tao or Railay Beach. But it does summon up the nitty gritty flavours that Thai cooking just nails so brilliantly. It&#8217;s blimmin&#8217; great value too. Mixed starter platters (chicken skewers, spring rolls, fishcakes) are just £11.95 per person and arrive with little bowls of satay sauce and sweet chilli for all that dunking. If you&#8217;re struggling to choose what to chow down on, there&#8217;s a tapas menu so you can have little nibbles. But my go-to is always the prawn penang.  It&#8217;s every bit as I remember it all those years ago in a dimly lit beach bar on Ko Phangan. </p>

<p>Not a restaurant as such but I&#8217;m always going to shout about this place. The folks behind this perennially popular pit-stop have perfected the art of keeping the crowds happy. Arguably it&#8217;s here you&#8217;ll find the best coffee in town in a space that&#8217;s the antithesis of Wilmslow&#8217;s flashy persona. No glitz, no gimmicks. And that&#8217;s exactly why I love it. Interiors are low-key and industrial with bare brick walls and towering palms and you&#8217;ll often find twenty-somethings tapping away on their laptops, nibbling the just-baked banana bread as they stare out the window. With an original outpost in Ancoats, this space was always going to bring a hint of Manchester cool to Wilmslow &#8211; and the town is quite rightly all the better for it. </p>

<p>I haven&#8217;t heard a bad word about this Greek restaurant &#8211; with another in Knutsford garnering a very loyal following. Stalky olive trees, swinging rattan lamps, stone floors and blue velvet banquette seating give off those Greek-feel-vibes. The buzzy space is the model of a contemporary taverna, with plenty of wine, humming atmosphere and top-notch Greek food. You&#8217;ll go up a belt size with the cooked-over-coals kebabs and the luxuriously sweet baklava &#8211; but it&#8217;ll be well worth it. </p>

<p>If you&#8217;re looking to graze on a few small plates and some punchy cocktails, get this all-day dining spot on your Wilmslow bucket list. It&#8217;s smart enough for a few drinkies with your best pals, not obscenely expensive and you can even take the kids in the day for a slap-up brekkie or loaded pancakes. If you are dining at night, book ahead as the place is packed with locals from late afternoon over the weekend and hums until late. Just make sure you order the buttermilk chicken, dripping in honey and chilli &#8211; reason enough to head on down. In fact, their foolproof formula of buzzy late-night antics with laid-back day dining has meant it&#8217;s opened another swinging spot in Macclesfield.</p>

<p>Pitched on Wilmslow&#8217;s Bank Square, this laid-back brunch spot is wildly popular with the fitness crowd and anyone who needs to send a few emails whilst slurping down a smoothie or munching down eggs cooked in every possible way. There are back-to-basics brekkie sandwiches on toasted muffins, but the underlying ethos of the place is all about proper home-cooked meals. And it all just feels healthy, whether you go for the mammoth yoghurt bowls topped in berries or the hot plates of nduja-roasted sweet potato with caramelised veg. Even if you just pop in for a coffee, the staff are amazingly smiley and welcoming and can&#8217;t do enough for their diners.</p>

<p>The crew behind this Neapolitan pizza place have now opened joints in both Macclesfield, Sale and Congleton. But this original branch is a particularly worthy place to nab a table. Hot, smoking pizzas are turfed out of the oven at the back of the restaurant and whipped out to diners on chunky wooden tables at record speed. Naturally, there are all the classics, but there are also some off piste toppings where the gastronomic good times truly abound. Go for the Miele with nduja, honey and basil or the salty-rich Carbonara with egg yolk and crispy pancetta. And if you&#8217;re about on a Monday, you can bag a hot, billowing margarita for just a fiver. Plus it&#8217;s BYOB too so the bill is always less than you think. </p>

<p>Calling all glamour pusses. If you love to throw on your fancy pants and dine in spectacular settings, this offshoot of the glam Italian chain pulls it all off with aplomb. Kick things off with a cocktail at the bar, perching on a pink velvet chair beneath a jungle of plants, before heading to your pristinely laid table. Despite its size and the swarms of immaculately dressed diners, it always manages to feel warm and buzzy, whether you&#8217;re in the glass-roofed terrace or sitting deeper inside the restaurant next to the kitchen. As for the cooking? It&#8217;s always luxurious and rich, thanks to the kitchen team who add finesse and proper solid cooking to the Italian-inspired menu.</p>

<p>This good times Irish pub might not be on your radar for food, but go on a Sunday when the kitchen team are cooking up epic roasts with billowing Yorkies and jugs of rich, warming gravy. Plus the kitchen also dishes up an insane Dublin Spice Bag (fried chicken with a hefty sprinkle of five spice). Bringing the little ones? Magnificently, there&#8217;s a tucked away play area under the stairs, filled with all sorts of kiddie paraphernalia. Though the best entertainment is the live music, especially when the pub&#8217;s resident fiddle player, Collette, turns up around 3, twirling and dancing around the pub in her glittery threads. She&#8217;s guaranteed to get you all on the dance floor.</p>

<p>For upmarket Italian served on thick marble tables, book ahead for <a href="https://ciborestaurants.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cibo</a> where waiters scurry about in pristinely ironed white shirts. This is Wilmslow at its glossiest, though for all the swank, there is real substance to be found within its menu, too. I love all the starter plates, from scallops loaded with n&#8217;duja to the creamy burrata, and the pizza and pasta are never going to disappoint.</p>
