<p>Arrive after dusk and the historic Salford garden of <a href="https://www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/bridgewater/whats-on/bridgewater-glow?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=ad-rhs&amp;utm_campaign=glowmuddystilettos&amp;utm_content=bridgewater-image-glowmuddystilettos" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">RHS Bridgewater</a> transforms into a twilight dreamland, capturing Bridgewater in all its winter brilliance, running this year from&nbsp;<strong>26 Nov to 30 Dec</strong>. There are giant illuminated petunias you can actually touch, glowing archways perfect for your Insta grid, and hidden nooks that feel like secret garden portals, making it one of the north-west&#8217;s most magical destinations this winter. My advice? Grab your <a href="https://www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/bridgewater/whats-on/bridgewater-glow?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=ad-rhs&amp;utm_campaign=glowmuddystilettos&amp;utm_content=bridgewater-image-glowmuddystilettos" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tickets</a> pronto. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>



<p>Pure, unadulterated Christmas magic. Twinkling trails weave through the revived gardens, from the Weston Walled Garden, filled with shimmering light and sound installations, to the freshly installed spectacle in the Paradise Garden. The large-scale production is without doubt top-tier, all thoughtfully designed and executed &#8211; no tacky gimmicks, no neon overload. My fave part without doubt was The Moonlight Gardener &#8211; and to call him a juggler is to greatly undersell his appeal. Part magician, part performer, he worked his magic, conjuring mesmerising light effects that danced around our heads &#8211; my photos do not do him justice.  He performs at select times each evening for around 15 minutes, so just make sure you nab a good seat at the wooden wellbeing hub before he shimmies onto the stage with his light-filled watering can. He&#8217;ll bring bees, birds, a thunderstorm and a beautiful full-phase moon to the gawping crowds. </p>

<p>SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</p>



<p>After getting stuck in traffic on the way, myself and my boys were ravenous, hotfooting it straight to the Bridgewater Cafe on arrival. There we gorged on huge bratwursts (£8), but there were hot spuds, too, and plenty of bakes and cakes, plus warm vimto and hot chocs. When you&#8217;re craving something sweet, the fire pits appear half way along the trail where you can buy marshmallows on a stick (£5 for a three hefty beauties) to hover over the fire pits. Or there are hot chocs with cream, mulled wine and coffees etc. And if you&#8217;re still hungry, mosey on over to the nearby Stables Cafe, where billowing pizzas are pulled out the oven. In short, arrive hungry as there&#8217;s plenty to take care of your appetite. </p>



<p>FAMILY-FRIENDLY</p>



<p>The real joy of an experience like <a href="https://www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/bridgewater/whats-on/bridgewater-glow?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=ad-rhs&amp;utm_campaign=glowmuddystilettos&amp;utm_content=bridgewater-image-glowmuddystilettos" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">RHS Glow</a> is that it&#8217;s been conjured with all ages in mind. If you have really little ones, they&#8217;ll be enchanted the entire length of the trail with the leftfield lights and sounds. Older kids, meanwhile, like my two freewheeling boys, can dart along the paths, between marshmallow and hot choc pit stops. Oh and they loved the light up swings, too. A gorgeous touch. </p>

<p>ACCESSIBILITY</p>



<p>This is <a href="https://www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/bridgewater/whats-on/bridgewater-glow?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=ad-rhs&amp;utm_campaign=glowmuddystilettos&amp;utm_content=bridgewater-image-glowmuddystilettos" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">RHS</a> so, naturally, it&#8217;s all very civilised. Paths are pushchair- and wheelchair-friendly, and there’s a special&nbsp;SEN Evening&nbsp;(<strong>Tues 9 Dec</strong>) with reduced noise and softer lights for those who need a calmer atmosphere. No elbowy crowds here either – you book in timed slots, which keeps things spacious and relaxed (great news for anyone with small children or a deep hatred of queueing). </p>



<p>DOG-FRIENDLY?</p>



<p>No pooches allowed, other than guide and assistant dogs. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p>This is grown-up Christmas lights done with the RHS’s trademark taste: thoughtful, stylish, and disarmingly enchanting without feeling garish. A trail that&#8217;ll leave your kids dreaming of luminous creatures and fairy-like magic, all kindled by the garden&#8217;s festive wizardry. Oh and not to forget the trail’s grand finale &#8211; leading to the brilliant garden shop, brimming with chic gifts, plants, décor, and homeware &#8211; a proper grown-up festive fix.</p>



<p><strong>GOOD FOR:&nbsp;</strong>The whole family – from babies in buggies to grandparents zooming about on mobility scooters – this is a feel-good space for all. Just don&#8217;t forget all the layers. </p>



<p><strong>NOT FOR:</strong>&nbsp;Er, the Grinch. Seriously, I can&#8217;t see why anyone wouldn&#8217;t love this. Oh and pooches — dogs must stay at home. </p>
