<p>Not a terrace in the classic sense, but Groobarbs earns its place for the view alone: a barn restaurant set right in the market garden, where the farm&#8217;s bounty is grown just metres from your table, and dishes are conjured with real panache, skill and passion. No wonder it won Best Restaurant in the Muddy Awards 2026. Our tip? Wander the beds and the tangle of foliage before you sit down — it&#8217;s the closest Cheshire gets to dining in the middle of a working field. </p>

<p>San Carlo doesn&#8217;t do anything by halves, and its £3m terrace is proof — a sunny dining terrace with a retractable roof, a white pergola strung with Italian crystal pendant lights, an open flame fireplace and lush planting, all fully dog-friendly and equipped for outdoor dining and drinks. This is the terrace for seeing and being seen with an Aperol in hand. </p>

<p>How about drinking Champagne in a courtyard surrounded by the fragrant scents of lavender? Nab a table at Michelin-listed La Popote – a French-inspired neighbourhood joint in Marton – with a menu that’s pure France. When the sun’s shining, diners gather around tables outside, smoothed with pristine white tablecloths, and are served high-end dishes conjured by chef Joseph Rawlins – a cook who brings his years working in Paris to the table. Magnifique! </p>

<p>For something small but perfectly formed, mosey on over to Linden Stores&#8217; side-street garden terrace. When the sun&#8217;s shining, it&#8217;s one of Knutsford&#8217;s most coveted spots for incredible British dishes &#8211; and given it seats just a handful of diners, you&#8217;ll want to book early; this one fills up fast. </p>

<p>How about a few finely-tuned plates of plant-inspired tucker? You&#8217;re going to want to head up into Chester&#8217;s historic Rows and to Shrub&#8217;s covered terrace, with some of the best people-watching in the city. Dips and pillowy flat breads, sticky teriyaki tofu, barbecued broccoli with tahini all washed down with a curated wine list in the sun &#8211; it&#8217;s a dead cert for insanely delicious veggie food. </p>

<p>The Ivy&#8217;s Chester outpost arrived on Newgate Street to high acclaim this spring with an impressive terrace opening to killer views of the Roman city walls. It&#8217;s the full Ivy production — an expansive terrace built for alfresco dining with the sun on your shoulders and a crisp glass of rosé permanently in your hand. Expect breakfast through to late-night cocktails in the glittering space, with the option to trade up to a two-course dinner for £34.95, or £41.95 for three courses. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-smoke-wilmslow"><a href="https://smokewilmslow.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Smoke, Wilmslow</a></h2>



<p>An institution on the town&#8217;s flashy Water Lane, Smoke is all about the gastronomic good times, with a picky-bits and sharing boards-style menu relying on its mothership (and iconic) farm shop, The Cheshire Smokehouse. As for its terrace? It&#8217;s definitely one of Wilmslow&#8217;s better-kept secrets, with two south-facing outdoor areas — one at street level and one on an upstairs deck, so you can chase the sun as it moves. Go for brunch (kitchen opens at 8am) or a low-key evening glass of something chilled and spritzy as the sun sets. </p>
