<p>The all-day bar-restaurant and microbrewery, set in a former working men’s club, is an absolute failsafe place to get the night fizzing. Peek inside the vast, cavernous, industrial-luxe space, and there&#8217;s always crowds of dressed-up locals propped at the bar or gathered round raucous tables, all intent on having a cracking time. The menu roams from small plates and grills to sushi, steaks and refined mains: soft-shell crab uramaki, tempura king prawns, beautifully cooked fillet steak. Don&#8217;t miss dessert either: they&#8217;re gloriously overboard – banana tarte tatin, profiteroles, chocolate fondant and a hulking harvest crumble with warm custard. And if you head there Mon-Thurs (12-7pm), there&#8217;s a brilliant prix fixe menu with two courses for £24.95 or three for £29.95.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m a massive lover of the Balearics (yes, I will own a pad there one day) and its outstanding foodie scene: those glistening ribbons of jamon, vinegary boquerones and prawns swimming in pools of chilli and garlic. And when I&#8217;m craving authentic Spanish gastronomy, I&#8217;ll duck inside this moodily lit space on Greenwood Street, where wooden tables sit cheeky by jowl and waxy candles bring all the atmosphere. Scallops arrive with a garlicky crumbly topping, the pork, served lovely and pink, is topped with splodges of a potent mojo verde. And crispy Andalucian style squid is served with a glorious glut of ailoi and  is just the sort of dish you imagine clinking classes of white at a beachside restaurant. </p>

<p>Rigatoni&#8217;s in Altrincham (formerly Sud and Sugo&#8217;s) takes its cues from&nbsp;sun-dappled Puglia – the heel in Italy’s boot.&nbsp;And whilst this bijou joint&nbsp;might not&nbsp;be able to promise <em>dolce far niente</em> (the sweet notion of doing absolutely nothing), it does promise&nbsp;authentic and restorative bowls of pasta&nbsp;that&nbsp;hum with&nbsp;the flavours of Puglia:&nbsp;sunny tomatoes,&nbsp;nduja,&nbsp;soft waves of garlic. The dish to go for? It&nbsp;has to&nbsp;be&nbsp;Sugo Scoglio – a hefty dish with king prawns,&nbsp;mussels&nbsp;and baby squid over pillowy strands of&nbsp;calamarata &#8211; best eaten with a spoon.&nbsp;Pure seaside-in-Puglia vibes.</p>

<p>The antithesis of your bog standard pub. Harcourt is indeed a tiny characterful pub, with wobbly wooden tables, a green-tiled bar pouring plenty of craft beer, and vast windows where the sun pours through. But its kitchen turns out exceptional Hong Kong-inspired cooking that&#8217;s a genuinely thrilling foray into the teahouses, street markets and down-to-earth dim sum houses of the Asian mega city. On the menu? Tangy and salty ribs, seafood rice gratin, pan-fried dumplings, fiery chicken wings, chicken curry&#8230; yep, my mouth&#8217;s watering too. </p>

<p>Undoubtedly the foodie mothership of Altrincham. The opening of this reimagined covered market back in 2014 was a gamechanger for the town, once haunted by empty shops and spaces, many of which were drowned after the opening of the mammoth Trafford Centre. But the Indies fought back and the ingenious crew behind the market (who also went on to open Picturedrome in Macclesfield and Mackie Mayor in the Northern Quarter) pioneered the revived gasttonomic good times in Altrincham. Zesty, firecracking tacos and frozen Margs at Pico&#8217;s Tacos; rich and earthy pies from Great North Pie Co, spot-on pizza with pillowy dough from Honest Crust, and soft-as-butter steak from Tender Cow &#8211; all insatiably delicious reasons to head here, from morning &#8217;til eve.</p>

<p>When you want a super casual bite and a kick-your-shoes-off sort of feel, mosey on over to Nell&#8217;s which dishes up piping hot NYC-style pizzas to its hungry crowds. With spaces in Kampus, Media City and Chorlton, it&#8217;s undoubtedly made a name for some of the greatest slices of pizza in the city &#8211; and it&#8217;s always a failsafe option for kids. My tip? Order the green chillis on the side to smother over your pizza, washed down with a spicy marg. And always round-off with an ice cream sandwich for pud.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m still mourning the loss of the closure of this bijou Neo-Tokyo joint in Wilmslow. So when I need my maki fix, I head to Unagi&#8217;s original outpost in Altrincham. From its humble beginnings in a silver food truck during lockdown, to its first bricks-and-mortar joint right here in the town, its popularity quickly soared with loyal diners hooked to their Japanese street-food style plates and glistening slabs of sashimi. My order? It&#8217;s always the fiery karaage chicken and salmon uramkai with plenty of wasabi. Oh, and there&#8217;s also a heated terrace that&#8217;s a lively spot to hunker down with sushi and a cocktail or three. </p>
