<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-lowdown">THE LOWDOWN</h2>



<p>Perched on Blackfriars Street in the old Brutalist shell of the former Renaissance Hotel, the second UK outpost of the brand, <a href="https://www.treehousehotels.com/manchester/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Treehouse Hotel Manchester</a> is a happily unpretentious space of whimsy, and a hip and playful antidote to the usual polished-but-predictable city pads on the scene.</p>



<p>There’s a genuinely fun energy to this place that most city hotels desperately try — and fail — to manufacture. Alongside the acclaimed restaurant, Pip, you’ll find a cinema room, a large gym, cultural pop-ups, and its iconic nature-led interiors and rooms nodding to childhood fantasies of hideouts and tree-top dens. </p>



<p>And it’s only getting bigger. This summer, the hotel enters its next chapter with the launch of Sister Moon, a rooftop Southeast Asian BBQ restaurant from chef Sam Grainger, alongside skyline cocktail bar The Nest and a hidden private lounge called The Hideout. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>

<p>Despite being slap-bang in the city centre, there’s a surprising sense of escapism once you’re inside. The lobby hums with energy, but the treehouse aesthetic softens the edges — all warm timber, layered textures, tree stump stools, and a jungle of plants in every direction. </p>



<p>Remarkably, it brings together a colourful cohort of guests: creative types tapping away on laptops; business chaps milling about reception; couples ensconced in a weekend break; and stylish parents &#8211; all sharing the same space without anyone getting on each other’s nerves.  It&#8217;s a space of real personality: playful without being gimmicky, stylish without being too try-hard or too cool. And in a city that thrives on creativity and character, it fits right in.</p>



<p>Treehouse talks the eco talk, too. Filtered water stations on every floor help cut down single-use plastics, menus are printed on recycled paper and behind the scenes there are real-time energy and water management systems keeping things running more efficiently. Outside, a lush living wall helps create a pollinator pathway across the city and doubles as a feeding haven for Manchester’s bees.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-pillow-talk">PILLOW TALK</h2>

<p>If you&#8217;re a bit of maximalist or love anything with proper character, you&#8217;ll be all over the rooms which lean heavily into the woodland fantasy. There are patchwork quilts, tree-stump bedside tables, quirky cushions, concrete-style ceilings, cuckoo clocks and enormous beds you’ll immediately want to swan-dive onto. Even the smaller entry-level rooms are cleverly designed. Plus there are Nespresso machines, fluffy robes, plenty of storage space and TVs concealed behind wooden doors. And if you&#8217;re bringing the kids, colourful teepees are hoisted up, where my three-year-old daughter lingered with some cuddly toys whilst I showered in peace. </p>



<p>Suites crank things up with skyline views, separate living spaces, light pouring in the vast windows and plenty of playful design touches &#8211; a Rubik&#8217;s cube here, an old school telephone there. Though the big news this month are the latest nine premium suites to be unveiled, with added kitchens, walk-in wardrobes and private-access options for those feeling particularly rock-and-roll.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</h2>



<p>The ground-floor restaurant <a href="https://www.treehousehotels.com/manchester/eat-drink/pip" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pip</a> is reason enough to book a stay on its own. Helmed by acclaimed chef Mary-Ellen McTague, it champions seasonal, low-waste cooking in a ridiculously pretty space with dozens of pearly glass vases adorning a wall, rattan-style chairs, rich textiles and glowing bronze lamps. The small menu leans proudly northern with inventive, produce-led dishes. Go for the rib eye, served lovely and pink, or the cod &#8211; doused in an insanely rich and buttery caper sauce. Seriously gorgeous. The kid&#8217;s menu is a serious step-up too &#8211; for whilst it serves the likes of fish fingers and burger and chips, the quality is far beyond the fried beige plates that appear in so many restaurants. </p>

<p>Breakfast is also dished up in Pip with eggs served how you like ‘em, a full English and all the trimmings; whilst I plumped for smoked salmon with butter-yellow scrambled eggs over muffins. There are kid&#8217;s mini brekkies, plus plenty of flaky pastries, fruit-dosed granolas, thick yoghurts and honey, and juice all there for the taking. And my three were clearly thrilled when they discovered the Nutella. </p>



<p>There’s also plenty of excitement building upstairs. Launching this summer, the hotel’s much-anticipated new rooftop space will introduce Sister Moon, a smoky Southeast Asian BBQ restaurant from chef Sam Grainger (of Madre and Medlock Canteen fame) in a winning collab with Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford, the team behind my all-time favourite, Volta (in West Didsbury), The Refuge and Electrik in Chorlton among others. Plus the crew behind it all will also be unveiling rooftop cocktail bar The Nest and a tucked-away private lounge, The Hideout. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-out-amp-about">OUT &amp; ABOUT</h2>



<p>The thing about Manchester is that everything is so easily linked together and you don&#8217;t need to cover vast distances to head from one side of the city centre to the next. You&#8217;re super close to Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Market Street if you fancy splurging &#8211; in fact, there&#8217;s a huge Zara store about a minute&#8217;s walk away. Spend mornings mooching around the Northern Quarter’s indie shops and coffee spots, before heading to Castlefield for canalside wandering and cultural pit stops. And if you&#8217;re with the kiddies, the National Football Museum is 5 minute&#8217;s walk away. Or you could catch the tram over to Mayfield Park with its brilliant slides and climbing frames (stop by Freight Island for a drink and top-notch food). And The Mystery of Banksy exhibition at Depot Mayfield is still going strong and definitely a good &#8216;un to take the kids. </p>



<p>Come evening, you’ve got the city’s best nightlife practically on your doorstep, though honestly, once Sister Moon is unveiled, you may just be tempted to stay put with a cocktail and smug skyline selfie instead.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-family-friendly">FAMILY-FRIENDLY</h2>

<p>Surprisingly so for somewhere this stylish. <a href="https://www.treehousehotels.com/manchester/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Treehouse Hotel Manchester</a> has clearly put thought into making family stays feel fun rather than merely tolerated. Studio Suites come with sofa beds for children, while Two Queens rooms comfortably sleep four, and interconnecting options are available for larger broods or multi-generational escapes. Cots are complimentary in Studio Suites and above, with Z-beds available if needed too.</p>



<p>There’s also a brilliantly extra Family Tree package, which includes in-room teepees, mini bathrobes and slippers, games, books and child-friendly bathroom goodies. Downstairs at Pip, there are highchairs and those top-notch children’s menus. And I even spotted a pick &#8216;n&#8217; mix station in the reception area (though I led my kids away after too much Nutella at breakfast). </p>



<p>Oh and it&#8217;s pooch friendly too &#8211; four-legged guests are positively spoiled here, with dog beds, bowls and treats all part of the welcome, plus dedicated pet packages for particularly pampered pups. </p>
