<p>Looking to embrace Manchester but with a hefty side of a calm? Well, <em>hello</em> Didsbury. Undeniably one of the city&#8217;s most sought after suburbs, it&#8217;s filled with grand period properties, crooked pubs and an enviable number of indie restaurants that are truly holding their own (more on that later). The point is, if you&#8217;re looking for a boutique hideaway, with all the grit and glamour of Manchester nearby, though in a space that&#8217;s serene and stylish, <a href="https://www.elevendidsburypark.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Eleven Didsbury Park</a> (or its sister hotel, <a href="https://didsburyhouse.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Didsbury Park Hotel</a>) ticks all the boxes. Oh and it&#8217;s worth mentioning, Eleven Didsbury Park is just 15 minutes&#8217; drive from Manchester Airport &#8211; making it a very dapper stay pre- or post-hols. </p>

<p>And it&#8217;s a beauty, too. A spruced-up Victorian villa that feels like an elegant private residence rather than a hotel &#8211; all high ceilings, bay windows, and a softly crackling fire in the resident lounge. I&#8217;m not surprised it hosts a whole hoard of events, including weddings, throughout the year, where guests can hover between rooms and the achingly pretty walled garden, before bedding down upstairs. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>

<p>Let yourself in through the grand doorway, and it truly feels like you&#8217;re stepping into a period home. The décor has a sophisticated ease to it &#8211; muted sage greens, rich damask wallpapers, and period plasterwork meet modern finishes.&nbsp;While the architecture retains its 19th-century bones, everything else feels unlabelled-luxury rather than over-styled boutique. To the left of the hallway is the lounge, where guests linger on sofas beside the fire with cocktails. Or when the sun is out, the walled garden out the back is a leafy retreat  &#8211; just ask at reception for a drink and they&#8217;ll whip you up a stellar cocktail to nurse beneath the trails of wisteria. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</h2>



<p>If you fancy cosying up, the hotel will rustle up a handful of crowd-pleasing classics which you can eat by the fire in the lounge or take to your room. Though in all honesty, I&#8217;d recommend exploring <a href="https://cheshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/6-of-the-best-restaurants-in-west-didsbury/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">West Didsbury&#8217;s foodie scene</a> whilst you&#8217;re here. Breakfast, on the other hand, is taken in the garden lounge and conservatory &#8211; a smorgasbord of just-baked croissants, yoghurt and granola, or hearty English brekkies.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-pillow-talk">PILLOW TALK</h2>

<p>It&#8217;s hard to believe there are 20 rooms in all spread throughout the house, ranging from &#8216;Snug&#8217; rooms with panelled walls to &#8216;Cosy&#8217; rooms where guests can wallow in free-standing baths. </p>



<p>I stayed in the Luxe Terrace Junior Suite on the second floor &#8211; which truly felt like a private maisonette rather than a traditional hotel room. It’s intimate, design-savvy and quietly luxurious — and (thankfully) the antidote to corporate hotels and budget chain stays. There&#8217;s a gorgeous, white bed with plenty of cushions, walk-in monsoon shower, a sofa for curling up with a book and exploring the mini bar, and design touches nodding to true townhouse elegance. But the real ace card? Pull open the French doors and totter up a few steps and you&#8217;ll find a tucked-away bath for two and outdoor terrace. A totally unexpected and wildly romantic find. Loved it. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-out-amp-about">OUT &amp; ABOUT</h2>



<p>Now this is where the fun really begins. For a sedate walk in a place that feels like the antithesis of Manchester grit, cross over Wilmslow Road and you&#8217;ll spot the streams of fairy lights signalling the entrance of Fletcher Moss Botanic Gardens. It&#8217;s a gorgeous place to grab a coffee and wander along its fragrant paths, through avenues of Poplar trees, and past small waterfalls trickling down the rock garden. There are <a href="https://www.lta.org.uk/play/book-a-tennis-court/courts/fletcher-moss_48124b22-1d0a-488c-9804-b25837f0f1da/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tennis courts</a> you can book by the hour &#8211; we did the following morning for just £3 (though make sure you bring your tennis rackets). Craving a hard drink? The entrance to the gardens nudge <a href="https://www.greeneking.co.uk/pubs/greater-manchester/ye-olde-cock" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ye Olde Cock Inn</a> with its always buzzing beer garden and <a href="https://www.thewildalderman.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Wild Alderman</a> &#8211; a rollicking pub with sharing plates on the menu. Though for a standout dinner, drive five minutes to <a href="https://cheshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/6-of-the-best-restaurants-in-west-didsbury/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Burton Road</a> &#8211; the bright-eyed main artery of West Didsbury filled with independents. Favourites include the Goan prawn curry at <a href="https://www.indiquerestaurant.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Indique</a>, inventive and globally-inspired small plates at <a href="https://www.voltafoodanddrink.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Volta</a> (always order the aubergine and miso dip), and tapas from <a href="https://www.portatapas.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Porta</a> &#8211; a restaurant that could easily pass for some inspired neighbourhood joint in Seville or San Sebastian. </p>

<p>GOOD FOR: Whether you’re here for a romantic weekend, a little foodie-and-shopping combo, or just a night of calm in the chaos, this is Manchester’s best-kept boutique secret.</p>



<p>NOT FOR: Anyone looking for a huge, homogeneous hotel. </p>
